Without realizing it, most of us tend to eat more acid-forming food and much less alkalizing food. Dairy products, meats, are just some of the food we tend to eat more. As you may notice, even most children do not like vegetables. However, it's never too late to start gaining optimum health. Being on an alkaline diet is highly beneficial, and even more for those of us suffering from acid reflux. This article will talk about what alkaline is, what alkaline food to eat with acid reflux and why it works in treating the condition.

What Does Alkaline Mean?

Any food rich in alkaline has a pH level of over 7.0. On the other hand, anything that is acidic has a pH level of below 7.0. Foods vary in nutritional value, but also vary by pH level. There are many foods that are alkaline as well as acidic. Depending on your specific needs, you may need more alkaline foods in your diet, but generally, everyone needs more alkaline foods for better health.

Why Do We Need More Alkaline Foods?

We sometimes need something to counteract the excess acids since over-acidity in the body can cause a myriad of health conditions. For those of us who suffer from acid reflux, we are even in a worse situation because we're often already predisposed to having more acid in the stomach than needed.

Although there are certain positions or activities may trigger acid reflux, but it is mainly what we eat that makes symptoms worse. Since acid reflux mainly involves acid traveling from the stomach to the esophagus, we need to keep acid levels down by eating less acidic or non-acid-forming foods.

Is There An Alkaline Diet?

You can find alkaline diet recommendations online. An alkaline diet basically means having meal plans that mainly incorporate alkaline food. Often times, alkaline diets will require you to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, vegetable roots, nuts and legumes. Of course, everyone has different tastes in different dishes, so you may benefit from researching on recipes that cater more to your liking. You may also visit a dietician or nutritionist to discuss your preferences in a special diet.

What Are The Alkaline Foods I Can Use?

Alkaline food to eat for acid reflux would include a wide range of fruits and vegetables that are alkaline. You may have grapes, bananas, blackberries, apples, strawberries, melons, cauliflower, celery, beets, radishes, eggplants, and spinach in your special diet. As you can see, a lot of these alkaline fruits are delicious and fun to snack on. There is also a myriad of vegetables you can eat as a side dish.

This diet is not just limited to fruits and vegetables. Alkaline properties can also be found in other foods high in protein. Foods that contain alkalizing protein include fermented tofu, almonds, chestnuts, whey protein powder and tempeh.

You don't have to stay with the diet forever. The alkaline diet is fairly simple to follow once you're used to using alkaline ingredients while cooking.

For as long as people have been known to snore there have been solutions. Many problems are caused by the sounds of snoring for those closest to the offender, as well. Sufferers are always looking for ways to end their pain, and so there are countless remedies to end the noise.

Shedding any extra pounds is one way that can help with snoring. There is a correlation between snoring and obesity and one way to stop snoring is to lose weight. It will also make you healthier overall.

Avoid alcohol before going to bed at night. Those who drink too much alcohol before bedtime tend to snore more than others. If you find that you've only got a snoring problem when you've consumed alcohol, this may be the answer.

If you are a smoker, quitting smoking is the best way to stop snoring. Studies have shown that many more smokers snore than do non smokers, given no other underlying medical condition. Smoking irritates the air passageways as well as create excess congestion and mucous, making it harder to breathe normally.

Not only can snoring be bothersome it could be a sign of a medical problem. You can always try strips or a humidifier, but if all fails, do seek a medical advice. Your doctor needs to know your history and your patterns from you and your partner in order to make the correct diagnosis. For example, if the doctor decides that your snoring is caused by restrictions in your air passages, a simple surgery may cure your problem.

Remember, however, that your health may depend upon seeing the doctor for a total checkup if you're unable to stop this problem by yourself. When you see a doctor, it's a good idea to bring along someone who's witnessed the snoring. You may find it tough to answer all the questions about the snoring. Most likely you don't know how or when you are snoring, but your partner does.

Serious health problems could arise for you and even your partner from a lack of sleep. You will be less productive if you do not get enough rest. You risk falling asleep in dangerous situations. As much as you may find it hard to believe snoring is not as simple of a problem as you might think.

Using a Chiropractor to Treat A Herniated Disc!

What is a Herniated Disc?

Anyone who suffers from a melody of back and leg problems may be wondering if they are suffering from a herniated disc. Some of the symptoms include but are not limited to back pain, leg pain, weakness in the legs, and abnormal functions of the lower extremities. So how do you know for sure if the problem you are facing is herniated disc, and what is the best way to determine such a diagnosis?

An intervertebral disc is made up of an outer, fibrous ring, and a central soft portion. The disc itself receives nourishment through the motion of the vertebrae above and below it moving and "squishing" the blood and fluids through the disc. If this movement does not occur, the outer ring can dry and tear which allows the soft portion of the disc to bulge out. This is what is commonly known as a herniated disc. (Also called a slipped disc, bulging disc, disc protrusion, etc.)

Not all herniated discs cause pain or discomfort. It is when the bulge puts pressure on the exiting spinal nerve that pain, or an inflammatory reaction, will occur. It is therefore very important to have a full understanding of what is causing the pain.

Subluxation Explained

If you are diagnosed with a herniated disc you may hear the word subluxation describing your condition. Subluxation is a term used by chiropractors to describe the uncomfortable result of one or more of your vertebrae being out of alignment with the spine. The reason subluxation occurs can be from a herniated disc. If pressure is placed on the spinal nerves then pain and discomfort will result. The pressure also disrupts the normal functioning of nerves and as such causes the nerves to be unable to send their normal signals throughout the body. This condition can have many symptoms, including but not limited to:

There are many symptoms that may indicate you are suffering from subluxation:

Pain spreading over the buttocks, down the back of one thigh, and into the calf Pain may be in one leg (more common) or both legs Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the legs or feet Numbness, tingling, or weakness in one or both arms In severe cases, inability to find comfort even lying down Sudden aching or twisted neck that cannot be straightened without severe pain Bowel or bladder changes and/or numbness in the groin

Treatment

A herniated disc can be treated. Typical forms of treatment include physical therapy to anti-inflammatory medication. Others may choose cortisone injections or even resort to surgery. Back surgery is extremely invasive and carries the risk of significant side effects. Even more disconcerting is that back surgery is not always successful. The best approach would be to seek the care of a chiropractic professional. A chiropractor will use conservative and holistic measures that will allow your body to heal itself and can greatly reduce pain and inflammation. Quite possibly, surgery will no longer be needed after chiropractic treatment.

Chiropractors train to specifically locate subluxation and treat them accordingly. Often a series of chiropractic adjustments are needed that are meticulously designed to target the vertebral subluxations you are suffering from. A chiropractor has years of education and training specifically intended to your spine and should be the only ones allowed to manipulate your spine. Some of the methods they use will actually decompress the vertebrae which will cause healing of the disc itself.
