By Christopher Maamor

Are you currently searching for receding gum treatment? Is it bothering you and your day-to-day activities? How will you uncover a superb and efficient receding gum cure?

Receding gums are just typically normal in the aging process of each person. But some people may notice them to be earlier than the usual. Gums recede due to some factors like genetic factors and can also be caused by bruising and irritation in the gums. It can also be caused by tooth abrasion and some gum disease. In most cases, receding gums are identified by just looking to a person's gums. It can also be detected by feeling the gum line at the top of the teeth. Receding gums can also hasten the decaying process even for healthy teeth.

Receding gums could cause teeth misalignment and excessive plaque build-up in the gum lines. Teeth that are misaligned may be treated by the dentist by putting in braces and by other treatments. Regular cleaning could also help in treatments for other achievable periodontal illnesses. One example of receding gum treatment that are severe is grafting. It may be from one more portion of the mouth and in some circumstances, it might be their only selection. But for others which have healthier gums and teeth, two techniques are available. 1st is hole drilling in the teeth and filling them in having a material which will maintain the gums from further receding.

The second strategy for a receding gum remedy is the latest one, but it has not but been approved by ADA (American Dental Association). It works by smoothing the surface of the tooth which is roughened by a dental drill, instead of drilling holes in it. Then a light coating of an adhesive type id filled in the tooth and is allowed to slightly dried. Right after this, the tooth is exposed to a blue light then followed by one more adhesive material.

There is a lot of receding gum cure options available today. Ask your dentist which one is best suited for you. Don't let receding gums take away your great smile. Look for effective and affordable receding gum treatment now.

Natural Solutions for Treatment Mononucleosis

By Rickey Henolap

Mononucleosis is a viral infection which effects your white blood cells. The virus called the kissing disease has been present for many generations. The virus is contracted through saliva. The use of sharing utensils, glasses, or lipstick can contain saliva as well as kissing.
Some of the symptoms are fatigue, headache, sore throat and possibly pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen. The part of the abdomen is your spleen, which filters your blood that contains the virus. You may notice when it is hard to swallow it may be affecting your lymph glands.

Simple blood tests will test for this virus. Seeing white spots in your throat and the doctor feels an enlargement of your spleen or lymph glands he will order several natural solutions that will assist on your road to recovery. Recovery will be different for patients. This is a virus and does not respond well to antibiotics.

The confusing factor about the disease is the nature of the symptoms of mononucleosis that very much resemble those of a common flu. During the first few days the symptoms of mononucleosis will include persistent fatigue, severe headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, fever and muscle pains. In the beginning most people would be sure they are dealing with a flu. However, if those conditions persist for more than ten days, one is likely to be facing the symptoms of mononucleosis.

If not treated with antibiotics, the mononucleosis symptom most often associated with mononucleosis, bodily fatigue, will invade other bodily functions and could even cause death. The disease known as mononucleosis is an attack by a herpes virus. The invading organism attacks red blood cells. As more and more red blood cells are attacked, the body makes more white blood cells to fight the invading virus.

The doctor that you go to see may offer some Corticosteroids. This medication is only used as a form of mononucleosis treatments in rare cases of the disease. For instance airway obstruction, hemolytic anemia, and any other thing that is very rare. Antibiotics are never used as one of the mononucleosis treatments. Most of the cases that come about are rarely so severe that it can put you in the hospital. Majority of the time, the only mononucleosis treatments are things that you can do are the self treatments

One cannot relieve a symptom of mononucleosis with any particular treatment a doctor can give. As a matter of fact, a symptom of mononucleosis will go away on its own. It sometimes takes as short a time period as a couple of weeks, but sometimes these symptoms can persist for months. Sufferers of the illness just have to wait for each symptom of mononucleosis to go away on its own.

People have used natural coconut oil (liquid or soft gel pill) and natural vitamins to assist on recovery in treatment mononucleosis. Ask your physician what he can recommend in your treatment mononucleosis.

Naturally Treating a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)

By Aneron Kepasil

A UTI is an infection of the urinary tract. While it is painful, it is usually not overly serious and is easily treated. The urinary tract becomes infected when bacteria is introduced into the tract. The most common cause of a urinary tract infection is from bacteria that lives in your digestive tract and is tranferred to your urethra. Once this bacteria enters the urethra, it travels upwards and can cause infection in the urinary tract or bladder. Sexual intercourse is a common cause of UTI's because during sexual activity, bacteria is moved from the vaginal area into the urethra. Another cause of UTI's is waiting too long to urinate. This causes your bladder to weaken, in which case it may not empty completely and some urine will be left in the bladder. This will increase your chance of a urinary tract infection.

The symptoms of a urinary tract infection are: a strong urge to urinate, a burning sensation when urinating, blood or bacteria in the urine, a strong odor from the urine, unable to pass large amounts of urine. What causes a urinary tract infection? There are many factors that can bring on a urinary infection. Such factors and causes of a urinary tract infection are the following: being a female, being sexually active, age, birth control medication, diabetes, and reoccurring tract infections.

Having good hygiene is important if you have a chronic UTI. Women should wipe themselves front to back when they use the bathroom. Women who have poor hygiene habits often wipe back to front which can cause fecal mater to enter the urinary tract. This creates bacteria in the urinary tract which causes recurrent urinary tract infections to occur.

A common natural UTI treatment is to flush the bacteria by drinking lots of water and other non-sugar based liquids. Flushing the bacteria from your urine helps to greatly diminish the painful side effects of a UTI. It is important to avoid sugar based liquids because they tend to encourage bacterial growth. The goal of naturally treating a UTI is to completely stop bacterial growth and remove the bacteria from your urinary tract system.

Some home remedies provide UTI relief, but that relief may be only temporary. First and foremost, you should drink plenty of fluids (especially water) to flush out the bladder. Cranberry juice is helpful as well in providing UTI relief, as it inhibits the growth of bacteria and makes it harder for the bacteria to cling to the urinary tract walls. Celery, watermelon and parsley can also contribute to UTI relief by acting as a diuretic and flushing out the bladder.

If you are experiencing pain and discomfort due to a urinary tract infection, you should try Urizol. Urizol uses a strategically mixed blend of herbs that attacks your bladder infection and gives you relief from the pain and burning as well. Urizol will help cleanse your bladder of the harmful bacteria and rid you of multiple symptoms using an all natural remedy.

Chiropractic Treatment And 3 Areas Of Concentrations Of Chiropractors

Chiropractic treatment is considered by many people as a great alternative to the traditional medical doctors. Thus, many are seeking this kind of service. Because of the numerous people who had known about its efficacy, chiropractic treatment rose to popularity in the recent years.

What is this treatment approach and what are cured by this? This procedure is associated with the spine - an alignment of a misaligned spine or vertebrae. The correction of position of the spinal will relieve a patient of many ailments. In practice, many have already taken advantage of this procedure's benefits. Babies and senior citizens are given the treatment. Even pregnant women are said to have easier childbirth when subjected to the process during the pregnancy period.

With the passing of years and with the increasing popularity and patronage to this alternative method, the procedure has advanced. What used to be a mere archetype of spine and neck straightening, the means developed into a kind of full service health care system. Chiropractic care is said to treat many ailments ranging from simple misaligned tissue in the spine and joints to the cure of ailments, relief of pain and boosting of the immune system.

Most chiropractors today define their areas of concentration on three aspects of treatment. These are relief, corrective and optimal health benefits. And many of these doctors (They had been properly educated, trained, experienced and licensed.) work in conjunction with other processes that can further alleviate the condition of the patient. They believe that acupuncture, acupressure and massage therapy can contribute to the healing process.

Done for pair relief is the most common benefit. Persons who had suffered injury or accidents can benefit from spinal adjustments. This is the rationale why athletes are patrons of this treatment procedure. A chiropractor normally renders physical evaluation on the patient prior to his rehabilitation.

The second area of concentration is corrective chiropractic procedure. This is implemented when a patient is suffering paid in the spinal for a long period or for a too extended time. This treatment is resorted because the traditional medical cure has failed. Under this method of curing a patient, the chiropractor works with the medical physician in devising a special therapy plan. The plan aims to drastically remove the pain, at the same time correcting the medical condition injury.

A third area of concentration is the achievement of optimal health. It has been said that spinal injuries can result to over-all weakness in the spine which will eventually affect the whole body system. The alignment of the spine will help in the natural healing process because interference
between the nerves and the mind or body is eliminated.

If you are suffering from an ailment that canot be diagnosed by your medical doctor, you can approach a chiropractor for determining if there exist anyspinal misalignment. If there is, the treatment may or may not be easy,

Altitude Insomnia

Insomnia can show its ugly little face in many different ways. Pilots, flight attendants, and even military trainees can suffer from this rare form of insomnia. This occurs when there is ascension to altitudes greater than about two miles up. In addition to the insomnia itself, altitude insomnia also includes fatigue, headache, and loss of appetite. One thing to keep in mind is that altitude is not always a factor that is related to flying in an airplane because altitude insomnia is also common among mountain climbers too.

Clinically, it has been indicated that usually within a week of being exposed to the high altitudes, the person will experience insomnia where they will be able to sleep but the sleep will be interrupted consistently due to the inability to catch their breath. They may feel like they are suffocating or choking. There may also be other symptoms as mentioned above that can accompany the altitude insomnia.

Altitude insomnia occurs in about 25% of people who rise about 2000 miles above sea level. Clinically, altitude insomnia has a few other names such as acute mountain sickness, Acosta's disease, Alpine sickness, and hypobaropathie. The primary cause of this is exposure to low air pressure which is what happens to people at high altitudes. Now because the aircrafts of today are modernized, the cabins are pressurized which therefore does not affect travelers on airplanes.

Normally it is the symptoms that are associated with the altitude that trigger the insomnia. Those who climb mountains, pilots, or flight crews follow what they consider to be a Golden Rule, "Fly high and sleep low." While that might not make much sense to the average Joe, to them it signifies a way to expose and re expose themselves to repeated altitude little by little to avoid these symptoms.

They ascend gradually, however this is not possible with flight crews. Many claim that fast ascension is not the issue at all but experts do agree that there is much about this in particular disorder that is not fully understood yet. There has been a strong link though that has indicated that when there is a rapid dissension that the symptoms disappear very quickly.

There are drugs that can also help to prevent altitude insomnia; Diamox and Sumatriptan are both prescribed with the prevention of altitude sickness in mind, therefore eliminating any altitude insomnia. Self help measures include drinking plenty of water and cocoa leaves have also been known to help altitude sickness as well. Although altitude insomnia is one of many symptoms that occur with extreme heights, it is important to remember that this is a lung complication where the lings are affected by the extreme altitude.

Recently a new drug came out to help people with this condition. Acetazolamide will be able to help many people that are subjected to altitude related illnesses. What researchers found was that this drug reduced pressure within the lungs by relaxing muscles that line the lungs' capillaries. This reduces fluid in the lungs and increases oxygenation.

Treating Lymphedema With Compression Sleeves

Lymphedema is a medical condition causing chronic swelling of the body. Doctors often recommend compression sleeves to lower the inflammation after the patient receives other therapy.

Features of Compression Sleeves
These sleeves can come in Lycra and nylon and should be worn each day under a medical professional's direction. Compression sleeves may be bought without a prescription through a pharmacy or online store. Different sizes and elasticities are on the market to fit both men and women. Custom-designed sleeves may be special ordered for those who cannot find the exact model suggested buy their doctor.

Compression sleeves used to come in only white but are now found in many colors and styles. Some brands even offer zebra stripes, festive designs and floral prints, which look more like a fashion statement than for treating edema. These newer versions are a lot more comfortable than the older styles. Depending on the manufacturer, moisture wicking is also featured to prevent excess perspiration beneath the sleeve.

Trying to pull on these special garments may be challenging for those who suffer hand and finger swelling. Donning gloves are helpful in putting sleeves on, allowing for better grip on both stockings and sleeves. Resembling dishwashing gloves, they are made of rubber and usually extend just above the wrist. Ridges on the exterior help catch the slippery, stretchy fabric, making it faster and easier to pull on.

Another product available that assists with putting on compression sleeves is a slippie. The arm is placed into an oversized sleeve, and the compression sleeve is slipped over it. The slide is easily pulled out by hand or hooking it onto a fixed object, like a doorknob. The compression sleeve stays on the arm and the slide comes out.

For those with poor circulation or medication issues that result in easy bruising, slides and donning gloves also prevent fabric from snapping back against the skin while pulling and losing grip on sleeves.

Compression Gloves
Edema may be limited to the wrists and hands, making sleeves ineffective or cumbersome. Specially made gloves are worn in these cases. The fingertips or area beyond the knuckles are removed to allow for finger dexterity, mobility and functional grip. While fabric choices are usually limited to various shades of tan rubber or nylon, some manufacturers also offer Lycra material that is in color.

Lymphedema Medical Conditions
People with damaged lymph nodes are most vunerable to lymphedema. This can be caused naturally or by surgery for cancer or other health problems. Common swelling areas include the arms and upper body, especially for breast cancer survivors. Risk for lymphedema is also hereditary, especially where poor circulation is a factor. In some remote parts of the world, a parasite called filariasis may cause the condition, as can cellulitis.

Lymphedema can also be called elephantiasis, or misnomered elephantitis, for the disfiguring effects in extreme cases.

Yeast Infection Symptoms - Get to Know Your Body

By Emery Jordyn

It is important that we learn to observe our bodies in order to be able to tell when something is "off". Yeast infection symptoms may differ depending on where the infection is located. Yeast infections are very widespread, yet tend to be one of the most mis-diagnosed and difficult of health problems.

It's very normal for yeast or fungi organisms to exist on nearly every part of our body. The most common form of these organisms is Candida albicans. A yeast infection or Candidiasis arises when certain conditions are met that allow for an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria in our bodies which usually keeps this yeast "in check". A yeast overgrowth or yeast infection is the adverse result of this imbalance.

Yeast infections show up in many forms such as a vaginal yeast infection a baby's diaper rash or an oral yeast infection thrush.

Vaginal yeast infection symptoms very often consist of a discharge that is thick and has a cottage cheese texture-however not everyone experiences this symptom. There is usually itching, burning and irritation around the vaginal area and surrounding tissue. There may also be discomfort during sex and a burning sensation while urinating.

Yeast infection symptoms in children and adults may manifest as an oral yeast infection or thrush. Thrush symptoms include white, thick, curd-like patches that appear on or under the tongue and palate of the mouth with redness and irritation of surrounding tissue. These patches may look like they could be wiped away easily; however, if upon scraping or other attempt to remove them, bleeding occurs-you can be assured that you have thrush. Thrush can make it difficult to take foodor swallow normally-and severe thrush may lead to dehydration due to difficulty with swallowing food and liquids. Babies may also experience skin yeast infections that look like a diaper rash, but have a distinct jagged edge, as well as "satellite" patches of rash in other areas.

Individuals with weakened immune systems because of serious illness that may include cancer of AIDS may be more prone to yeast infection symptoms that affect internal organs and cause organ dysfunction and severe pain. AIDS patients may experience yeast infections of the esophagus (esophagitis) and upper gastrointestinal area. While such infections have similarities to thrush, they are more serious and usually extend down the throat, esophagus and stomach. Resulting ulcers may affect the throat, esophagus and gastrointestinal system causing painful and difficult swallowing.

While these are a few of the most common yeast infection symptoms, an ongoing or chronic yeast infection could end up causing a long list of long term symptoms including fatigue, brain fog, stress or anxiety, bloating, migraines, sugar cravings and irritability, among others.

If you've never had a yeast infection before, it is most always best to talk with your doctor to confirm the diagnosis prior to self treating. The presence of severe symptoms such as fever or pelvic pain may indicate a more serious problem.

Reishi Extract and Cancer

By Markho Rafael

Reishi extract is commonly used in Oriental Medicine as almost a cure-all. Both medical practitioners and regular people use it for things as innocent as stress and the common cold to more serious afflictions like asthma and cancer.

One of the most ardent proponents of reishi is Dr Fukumi Morishige, a Japanese medical doctor working with the Linus Pauling Institute of Science & Medicine in researching the use of reishi for cancer.

Below follows seven cases described by Dr. Morishige during a speech, later reprinted in the publication, Chinese Traditional Medicine Part III.

Growing up in Japan as Dr. Morishige did, it was impossible not to have heard of reishi. But he dismissed it as a mild herbal remedy to be used with limited results for non-terminal illnesses, not as a viable option for treating terminal conditions such as cancer. His curiosity arose when two of his cancer patients showed signs of remission, which they themselves claimed were due to their use of reishi.

First was a 39-year-old woman with lung carcinoma. The hospitals she had visited all told her she was too far gone and there was nothing they could do to help her. As a serious secondary complication, she also exhibited chest cavity edema. None-the-less, by the time she had her first appointment with Dr. Morishige, the symptoms of her illness had disappeared. The woman credited her recovery to the use of reishi, which her husband had administered to her at 4 grams per day.

After that, there was the case of the young boy with congenital liver cancer. Four years before he came to see Dr. Morishige, the boy's original doctor had sent him home with his parents, claiming the condition was terminal and there was nothing he could do to help. But when Dr. Morishige examined the now 9-year-old-boy, he could find no trace of the tumor. The boy's parents said they had been giving their son reishi via his naso-gastric feeding tube. This is when Dr. Morishige decided that reishi deserved a closer look.

The following are five of his case studies using reishi and Vitamin C (for prevention of side effects):

Case 1: A 70-year-old male patient who had lost consciousness due to a 5 cm (2 in.) brain tumor was administered 6 gm of reishi per day starting in June of 1986. By September, he had regained consciousness. He continued to take reishi orally after regaining consciousness, now 3 gm/day. By December of that same year, brain scans showed the tumor had diminished in size. Once the size of the tumor had been reduced to 1 cm, the patient was released from the hospital and returned to live with his family.

Case 2: A 50+ female with metastatic lung cancer and hemoptysis (coughing up blood) began a regimen of 6 gm/day of reishi. Six months later, the tumor had disappeared. And whereas before she had experienced severe shortness of breath, she could now effortlessly climb stairs.

Case 3: A woman with breast cancer and metastatic bone cancer suffered excruciating pain and an inability to move below the neck. Dr. Morishige started her out on 9 gm/day of reishi and then increased it to 20 gm/day. In two months, the patient was free from pain, able to walk, and was released from the hospital.

Case 4: A man with rectal cancer metastasized to the liver was placed on 6 grams per day of reishi. Six months later, CT scans revealed that the tumor had shrunk. The patient showed improved health.

Case 5: A patient with pancreatic cancer and short life prognosis was put on 9 grams of reishi per day, orally, and 30 grams of Vitamin C, intravenously. Twelve months later, he reported that he longer experienced any symptoms and was back to work. He said he'd continued taking 5 grams per day of reishi after leaving the hospital.

Note: This article is provided for scientific and informational purposes only. This product has not been tested by the FDA and should not be used for self-treatment of tumors. Never use any herb for medicinal purposes without consulting a licensed medical doctor.

Candida Treatment - The Natural Way

By Michael Sullivan

Thanks to the introduction of natural treatments and advances in medical science and technology, different effective Candida treatments are available at present. While a particular remedy may be favorable for one patient and not work for another, it pays to study all the advantages and disadvantages of a Candida treatment before espousing it.

The question whether to apply a natural medication to deal with Candida or to apply a Western treatment is a controversial subject which boils down to how an individual will react to, and make a choice either of the two. A medical practitioner who prescribes any Candida procedure always takes into account anti-fungal treatment such as Clortimazole or Miconazole. Both of these medications have proven to be very effective over time, although you will always have other alternatives to consider.

An effective natural way to aid these prescribed treatments work is to change the dietary plan to be free of yeast and sugar. This spoils Candida's growth as it will be stripped of any optimal breeding ground. Meanwhile, Candida can be dealt with through the procedure called Immunotherapy i.e. applying anti-genic extracts to combat the illnesses contributed by this yeast infection.

A homeopathic procedure can also help effectively in Candida medication. This is a procedure focused on cleaning the body organs that pay homage to Candida yeast i.e. the digestive system and the intestinal tract. Acupuncturealso serves as an alternative Candida treatment as it is thought to aid in stimulating the immune system.

Very crucial to bear in mind though is that for these and all other medications to shape effectively, there needs to be an accurate diagnosis at the outset, by a certified practitioner. The reason is that there are other ailments whose symptoms are similar to that of Candidiasis. It implies that practicing wrong medicine will only make things worse.

What is Maternity Acupressure?

By Linda Deen

Maternity acupressure (or labor acupressure) is an all natural technique to help pregnant woman induce labor in a safe and natural way. It's also very effective in giving pain relief and can drastically improve your birthing experience.

But what is acupressure? Many people mistake acupressure for acupuncture. It's true they have a similar name and work in a similar way, but there is one major difference. Acupressure uses fingers instead of needles. It's a very gentle and safe technique, even for the pregnant mother to be.

In a way acupressure is acupuncture without needles. Actually it is the other way around, because acupressure came before acupuncture. The theory is that by using deep but gentle pressure on specific acu-points that are located on energy pathways called meridians, the blocked energy starts to release, stimulating the body's natural self-healing abilities.

Is there some research evidence that acupressure really works? Yes, many studies have been conducted and they all confirm positive effects of acupressure to some degree. I'm not familiar with any negative conclusions about acupressure. After all, it has been practiced by millions of people for thousands of years.

Acupressure is used for treating various ailments. In western world it's predominantly used to relieve pain, reduce stress and tension, and improve overall well being. In China people use it everyday for things like colds, headaches, sore muscles and even hangovers.

It can also be very useful during pregnancy and childbirth. During pregnancy it can be used to combat morning sickness, and increase energy levels and overall well-being. When the time comes it can help induce labor naturally, relive labor pains, strengthen contractions and keeping you calm and relaxed.

Maternity acupressure is a great way to naturally encourage your labor without having to resort to medications that could harm both you and your baby. It can be safely used at home with basic instructions.

Four Common Massage Techniques in the United States

Many people hear great things about getting a massage from friends and family but rarely know what type of massage is right for them. Below I have given descriptions of four very common forms of massage in the United States.

Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of your muscles and the tissue that connects the muscles. This type of massage is great for people who suffer from stiff necks, low back pain and sore shoulders that are often caused by chronic tension.

When there is constant muscle tension bands of rigid muscle tissue form in the ligaments, muscles and tendons. These rigid bands will block blood circulation which will then lead to pain and inflammation.

By the use of direct pressure by the massage therapist deep tissue massage actually breaks down this rigid muscle tissue. By doing so pain and inflammation is relieved.

Hot stone massage is a variation of what a lot of people would consider classic massage. Heated flat stones are positioned at certain points of the body. The skilled massage practitioner may also hold the heated stones to massage parts of the body.

Hot stone massage is good for people that would be good candidates for deep tissue massage but prefer a lighter softer touch to their massages. It is also a good massage technique for people that often complain of having cold feet.

The heat of the hot stones relaxes and warms the muscles and nervous system. By doing so the massage therapist can perform a deep tissue massage but not have to apply as much pressure.

Swedish massage is the most well known massage technique practiced. Swedish massage is also the foundation for many other massage practices such as sports massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy massage.

The goal of Swedish massage is to increase oxygen flow in the blood, release toxins from the muscles which relieves aches and tension and also improve a persons flexibility. The Swedish massage practitioner does this by using 5 different movements as part of the massage; long gliding strokes (Effleurage), tapping (Tapotement), kneading on specific muscles (Petrissage), rubbing (Friction) and shaking (Vibration).

Swedish massage is great for people who suffer with back pain, stress and stress related conditions, headaches, muscle strains and sprains, circulatory issues and post injury rehabilitation.

Aromatherapy massage is a massage technique in which a skilled massage therapist performs classic massage and incorporates the use of concentrated plant oils that are called essential oils within the massage lotion or oil.

The principle behind aromatherapy is that the nostrils are connected to the limbic system. The limbic system controls your emotions and also influences your hormones and nervous system. Various aromas produced from the essential oils will send messages to the limbic system that will influence a persons blood pressure, digestion, immune system, stress level, heart rate and breathing.

Aromatherapy is a good solution for people that suffer from issues that are related to stress. Some common conditions that are addressed with aromatherapy will include headaches, digestive issues, beck pain and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

You can learn more about different massage techniques and practitioners in your area by visiting Best Massage Network.

The History And Benefits Of Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto can be extracted from the fruit of the Serenoa Repens. It's used in a wide variety of traditional and alternative medicines and is most notably used for prostate health. The plant itself looks like a shrub version of the palm tree and has the signature fronds of the palm tree, but doesn't have the long trunk that the tree has.

The fruit are berries, which are harvested in the fall after they mature. These berries are then ground into a powder, then a lipophilic extract is taken from the powder. This extract is what is actually used for medicine. The plant can be found from South Carolina all the way to Texas, but is most common the farther southeast you go. Central Florida is the largest producer of Saw Palmetto in the country.

Native Americans were the first to utilize the Saw Palmetto and ate the berries for food before discovering the medicinal properties of them, but this Saw Palmetto made up a large chunk of their diet. Later, Native American medicine men used the berries to treat impotence, inflammation and infertility, as well as some other conditions, such as for the prostate.

Interest in this plant had peaked in the U.S. and in the late 19th century, where it was observed that the plant seemed to help livestock. The extract that was taken from these berries was used to treat things like an enlarged prostate and gonorrhea. After WWII, however, interest in the plant died out in the United States.

In Europe, however, the extract was popular for treating BPH. Now, however, there is a renewed interest in the extract in the U.S. and it's currently being used to treat many things like hair loss, prostate enlargement, and poor libido.

One of the major benefits of using Saw Palmetto extract is that there are very few hazardous allergic reactions or side effects. Like many supplements, there is a slight risk of gastro-intestinal problems, however taking the extract with food can help to keep intestinal problems to a minimum. The extract does carry a chemical, which is called beta-sitosterol, which is very similar to cholesterol.

Much like cholesterol, high levels of this chemical have been known to increase the risk of heart attacks and other heart problems. Also, it's important to note that all of this has to do with the amount you take and the batch or manufacturer. Currently, PSE is used only as a natural supplement, so it's not regulated in the United States.

To successfully extract the lipophilic substance from the plant, a solvent must be used. The solvent used in permixon, the most common Saw Palmetto product in the UK, is extracted using Hexane. Other solvents used include methanol, ethanol and liquid carbon dioxide.

The solvent used is very important, as it can affect the chemistry of the product, and you want to make sure you are getting the highest quality product, so it's always a good idea to keep an eye out for products where Hexane is used as the solvent.

Saw Palmetto can be a great way to improve prostate health with little to no danger of side effects.

We want you to learn more about Saw Palmetto as a plant, so come and check us out at http://www.sawpalmetto.org

What To Do For Ringing In The Ears - Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

By Matt Hellstrom

Tinnitus retraining therapy is a therapy that has proven to be very effective in helping people deal with tinnitus. If you have it, you are going to have to accept that in most cases, there is no cure and you will suffer from the symptoms for the rest of your life, so you are going to have to learn how to control them.

Tinnitus is a condition whereby you hear a constant ringing, buzzing or some other type of noise that is only heard by you. This condition is often brought about by stress, trauma or exposure to loud noises on a steady basis. In actuality, this is a condition that you can prevent, but once you have it, you will need to use a method such as tinnitus retraining therapy to get it under control.

Since the condition cannot be cured in most cases, it must be managed. How you manage the problem is through the tinnitus retraining therapy where you learn to re-associate the noise with the negative connotation that it currently carries for you and make it almost non-existent in your life.

With this approach, it is apparent that you do not have to eliminate the condition to alleviate the pain or discomfort that the patient is experiencing. If you want to relate this to something to understand it a little better, picture the person that lives on the same block as the elevated train goes down. When they first move there, they are probably up all night as the train will keep them awake. Over time, they get used to the noise and it just becomes a part of their everyday life and they are able to simply ignore it and act as though it does not exist.

Take note that this is not an uncommon condition, just under 20% of the population is either experiencing this condition now or has experienced at some time in their life. While it does not affect everyone the same way, it is quite a problem for about 25% of the people that have it. This therapy can allow them to live their lives without the issue of having to deal with these buzzing our ringing sounds each and every day.

What people actually need to realize is that this is a condition that is probably 100% preventable in a lot of cases. Make the decision, have ringing in your ears for the rest of your life or turn down the volume a normal human being would listen to.

You can lower the volume, you can wear ear plugs and you can control or even eliminate the stress in your life if you put a concentrated effort forward to do so. Tinnitus retraining therapy can assist you in tuning out the annoying sounds in the environment, but it's up to you to make sensible choices when it comes to your own noise pollution.

The Use Of Essential Oils As Antiviral Treatment

Essential oils are volatile liquid plant materials which can be used for various purposes in the arenas of health and food production. One area that they are commonly used in is anti-viral treatment. These treatments target various ailments and physical problems. Some nations do not recognise the use of these essential oils (as part of aromatherapy), but others such as France, where aromatherapy began - and the United Kingdom (where the Queen herself is a big fan of the therapy) embrace these oils more.

Tea tree Oil is one very popular oil, used for its anti-sceptic properties. It is a native plant to New South Wales, Australia and although the smell is considered a very pleasant one, it is a very effective anti viral treatment. It has been used for skin problems such as acne. It is usually diluted, as pure Tea tree oil often causes bad reactions. It has been used against staphylococcus aureus and MRSA with some effect. A valuable member of the essential oils family.

Another of the most common essential oils is Lemongrass, which as well as being used a great deal in cooking (due to its fresh citrus like flavor) and in perfumes, is also used in aromatherapy. It is particularly good as an insect repellent, as it contains citronella, geraniol and citronellol - which have anti septic properties.

Sandalwood as well, has purported medicinal qualities - namely anti-viral. This essential oil is usually used in the manufacture of fragrances, but has been used by, for example, Buddhists who believe it maintains personal alertness. Sandal wood was used as an anti-septic up to the 1930s, but care had to be taken because of its strength - it has to be diluted with an appropriate carrier oil. It has been used for keeping skin clear of blackheads and spots.

Peppermint has been used to treat Irritable Bowl Syndrome - and only as recently as 2007 did Italian researchers find a way to help the condition with it successfully.

Another of the main essential oils is Ginger - or Jamaica Ginger as the medicinal form is known, has successfully been used to treat colic and dyspepsia. It is regarded as a safe medicine (on the FDA's safe list) as it does not have any negatives with any other drug, except Warfarin (used for thinning the blood). It has also been used to release bile from the gallbladder - important for those suffering with gallstones. It has also been involved in inconclusive tests related to reducing the pain caused by Arthritis. It is also effective against diarrhea - the leading cause of infant death in the developing world.

Thyme is an anti-septic too, having been used in bandages before more effective substances were found. This anti-septic quality is why it is the main ingredient in Listerine mouthwash. Tea made with thyme is effective against coughs and bronchitis. In its tea form, it can be used to reduce inflammation of the throat when gargled three times a day.

There are many essential oils which perform various antiseptic roles, some of which get placed under the heading 'aromatherapy', while others, it transpires, are used in many household medicinal products (albeit heavily processed) - such as Listerine (mentioned above). So the next time you have an ailment, why not check your garden for some essential oils.

Anna Stenning is an expert on essential oils having had many years of experience in the health sector. For more information visit http://www.neoils.com/

Why You Get Acid Reflux and How to Stop It

By Mae Summerville

Food is normally trapped in the stomach by the lower esophageal valve after it has passed through to stop this problem. It is when the esophageal sphincter does not close after food has passed through that the stomach fluids try to escape upwards and that is why it is called acid reflux.Medical science prefers to call the condition: gastroesophageal reflux disorder. At the moment it is considered that a poor diet is the underlying reason for the acid reflux problem but not the main cause of the condition, overeating could also add to the problem and cause unnecessary stress on the stomach and its ability to process food.

It is never wise to eat large amounts at is puts a significant strain on the stomach muscles which in turn results in pressure within the gut itself.something has to give; this being the acid which returns or refluxes back up the esophagus bringing with it the very unpleasant heartburn. Since this valve protects your esophagus from your stomach acid, you need to take care this valve does not allow digested acidic food to pass back into the esophagus. This can be achieved by consuming smaller meals; the incidences of heartburn should reduce. To maintain health your digestive system needs to be healthy so requires looking after if you want to remain in good health as well.this is because the stomach is not only responsible for breaking down our food but also for preparing this food to be converted to specific nutrients that every person needs.

Using drugs and other acid reducing drugs readily available from drugstores will block the natural processes of your stomach on a temporary basis, the problem is these short term remedies can create other problems as they interfere with the natural functioning of the digestive system. It may take a while but the best solution is to make adjustments to your drinking and eating habits which may have caused the acid reflux condition, this should be done for a period of a few months to strengthen your stomach's normal processes. If you can reduce the heartburn occurrences, in time you may well be able to slowly start eating those dishes that have needed to be cut out.

Lifestyle changes extend beyond those of just eating habits as other contributing factors to acid reflux can be:

*Smoking *Food allergies *Prescription medication *Too much alcohol *Lying down after a meal

All this comes down to a lifestyle change which ultimately only you can control, the number of heartburn episodes that occur should diminish. So by watching what you eat and taking care of your health, you stand a better chance of avoiding and clearing acid reflux disorder, this is a decision which only you can make but it should not take Einstein to know what the choice should be!

What are Your Options on Cure for Toenail Fungus?

By Rashel Dan

If you're looking for cure for toenail fungus, there are several options. It's only natural to want to get rid of the condition. Having toenail fungus is very embarrassing. Infected nails are very unsightly, and may throw people off. People with extreme cases of toenail fungus can't help but lose their self-esteem, as they won't be confident enough to show their toenails in public. Fortunately, there are different types of treatment one can get for toenail fungus. Although efficiency varies, it still counts to try out the various options and see what works best.

What is toenail fungus?

Toenail fungus is known as Onychomycosis in the medical field. It describes both fungus and yeast infections in the nail. The fungus thrives underneath the nail, where it is dark, warm and moist. It occurs twice as often in men than in women. There are several risk factors for catching toenail fungus. This includes the increasing age, gender, sweaty feet, nail trauma, poor hygiene, poor circulation, foot fungus and a weakened immune system.

Where and how you can develop toenail fungus?

Fungus thrive on moisture. Showering facilities, spas, saunas, and public swimming pools are some of the places where you can pick up toenail fungus. Also, if your feet are damp and moist, you are more likely to become infected. Having closed shoes that offer no ventilation and wearing socks that do not absorb moisture may also bring about toenail fungus. Frequent nail trauma may also increase the chance of infection.

How you can spot toenail fungus?

It's easy to spot the condition. Infected nails are discolored, developing into a yellowish or brownish color. In some cases, it could turn black. Little white spots can also be noticed in other cases. The toenails may emit a foul smell. Growth and texture of nails are irregular. The nails become brittle and crumbly. If left untreated, it could bring discomfort and pain especially when walking and running.

What are your cure options for toenail fungus?

Luckily, as previously mentioned, you can find several forms of cure for toenail fungus. There are home remedies that you can use to treat toenail fungus. The common ones include using vinegar, mouthwash, and toothpaste. Others apply diluted bleach to the affected toenails and soak them in seawater or rum. Vitamin E could also be used by rubbing it into the affected nails. However, all these are ineffective in eliminating toenail fungus. It could even irritate your skin, such as by using bleach.

Of course, you can also opt for prescription treatment. However, there are disadvantages that come along with it. The cost of such treatments can be very high. It could go as high as a hundred dollars per week. And, it could cause side effects that may affect the liver and kidney, among others.

Lastly, you can try a topical solution. This is the better choice since it is effective and safe. It gets rid of toenail fungus fast and promotes healthier looking nails in a small amount of time. Choose one that uses the power of natural oils from plants such as tea tree oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, and other all natural ingredients. Because it is natural, you are assured that it is safe and does not produce side effects. Those are some options on cure for toenail fungus. Remember, prevention is still the best cure, so take some preventive measures to avoid developing toenail fungus.

Acupuncture Treatment Review

By Amanda Gamdana

One of the techniques of Traditional Chinese Medicine that is very close to Acupressure is Acupuncture. Like acupressure, this method uses the points of energy in the body called meridians; here fine needles penetrate the skin at those points - the method boosts good health and treats poor health.

In times of good health, the energy flows freely through the meridians but injuries and disease tend to block the flow. It is brought down to a simplistic explanation of getting the Qi or Chi to flow without any blockage through the human body in order to maintain a state of good health. You'll find that there are 14 meridians on the body and these have 365 points for acupuncture.

Trapped energy or Chi is stimulated and released by inserting special needles at specific locations or through acupressure depending on the nature of the illness. It is something like clearing the blocks in the path of the river to allow its free flow again. Chi may also flow either too quickly or too slowly, in which case acupuncture is used to regulate the stream of energy.

Within China, this particular form of medicine has been being practiced for a minimum of four thousand years, with all of these needles being found within archaeology digs of the late Shang Dynasty. Acupuncture is of three kinds: traditional Yin/Yang Theory, Five Elements and the Western or medical acupuncture. Though the diagnostic approach used by all the three methods is similar, the causes attributed to the illness and the treatment of the illness varies from one method to the other.

The basis of five element acupuncture is the five element cycle seen in Chinese medicine; the underlying belief is that an illness can be due to a physical cause or emotional stress. Based on this it is thought that only if inner stress is taken care off then physical illness or symptoms can be cured. Since the main emphasis within the five elements theory focuses on treating an illness's underlying cause, one should realize that it can be a very slow process in order to reach a complete recovery even though it is quite possible. According to the Yin/Yang theory the overall balance of the Yin and Yang has to be maintained for good health. Combinations of the different acupuncture points on the meridians are simultaneously stimulated so that more than one element is affected.

Western acupuncture combines Eastern and Western medical techniques and its focus is more on urgent short term treatment. There are two sub-categories of the medical aspect, the first, anesthetic acupuncture, is used in surgical and dental procedures. The second one is the 'symptomatic' one, or also known as first-aid and is not used mainly to cure illnesses but used along with analgesics as a pain reliever and has a temporary effect.

Well documented, reliable medical research has shown acupuncture to be successful in treating high blood pressure and migraines, allergies, depression, arthritis, asthma and gynecological problems including infertility. The treatment works best where the illness does not respond to conventional medication, is a persistent one or it is lifestyle related.

Are Plantar warts Restricting Your Activities?

By Willis Green

In the United States, 7% - 10% of the population has warts. In fact, warts are the most common of all skin infections. Plantar warts are non-cancerous growths that appear on the plantar surface of the foot -- typically on the sole, the heel, or the ball of the foot. You will typically see small black dots in the wart which are actually blood vessel capillaries. These nourish the wart. As for size, plantar warts can start very small but occasionally grow to cover most of the sole of the foot.

Plantar warts often cause pain, especially when located over bony areas of the foot. They don't always present as raised bumps because they have been forced to grow downward, into your foot, due to the pressure of walking. Most sufferers will agree that these warts are notoriously hard to treat.

What is the cause? . . The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) invades the body through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin on the bottom of the feet. This common virus can be found in public showers, pools, locker rooms and even on city sidewalks. It can incubate for up to 20 months before warts actually appear on your foot. This makes it almost impossible to determine when or where the initial infection actually took place. In some cases, the HPV virus dies within 1 or 2 years, and the warts will just gradually disappear.

Unfortunately no conclusive evidence exists that any treatment eliminates HPV infection -- or even decreases its ability to spread. So don't be too surprised that warts may recur even after successful treatment. This is because of (re)activation of latent virus present in healthy skin adjacent to the lesion. If precautions are not taken, then re-infection from the above-mentioned sources is also very possible. Although the warts are usually self-limiting, healthcare professionals usually recommend that they be removed. This is to lessen symptoms (which often include pain), to decrease their duration, and to reduce transmission and spreading. Keep in mind that the HPV virus is very contagious. It can spread quickly to other parts of the foot, or even to other people.

Natural, effective remedies abound. Most take time, attention, and patience. Traditional medical remedies include topical applications (usually acid), surgery, or freezing of the lesions by a doctor. One recent study actually found that duct tape was more effective than many of the medical treatments. [However the adhesive in duct tape may be toxic to humans?.]

Because contact with moist walking surfaces can spread HPV, these lesions can be prevented by not walking barefoot in public showers, around pools nor in gymnasium locker rooms. Also, do not share shoes or socks, and avoid direct contact with warts appearing elsewhere on your body and warts on other people. Keeping your shoes and socks dry and clean is essential to limiting recurrance and spread.

Any Cautions? Just a few. If left untreated, these warts may develop into pre-cancerous lesions -- however, this is very rare. If your warts are really painful, if they get bigger, if they refuse to go away over time, then see a healthcare professional. Also, if you have diabetes or circulation problems, consult your doctor. He or she will help you determine the safest treatment option.

Conclusion : It's extremely difficult to avoid contracting the virus that causes plantar warts. Treatment or removal is very important. A plantar wart can be extremely painful if left untreated. Though self-limiting (2 years), you should probably still treat your plantar warts in order to lessen your symptoms, decrease their duration, and reduce their spread and transmission to other people.

A Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women

By by Anju Mathur, MD

What is Bioidentical?

Understanding the word bioidentical is important. The word Bio is defined as life; living organism. Identical is defined as being the same. Put the two words together and it means any thing that consists of the same substance that is found in the living organism. The reference of bioidentical is used especially for any natural hormone with the same cell structure as that found in a human body.

Synthetic hormones have been created and are used in this modern day. It is the popular thinking of this day and age that synthetics are used because a human body is incapable of using natural substances to create the hormones it needs - but look at how long mankind has survived with natural substances from mother earth compared to the problems that synthetics cause.

Why replace hormones?

We are what we eat has been a common saying, there is some truth to that because hormones are chemical substances that are produced in the body from the sustenance that we give our bodies. Once manufactured, the hormones are delivered via the blood to different organs to get the functional activity to occur.

After turning 35 years old, the production of hormones lessens each year. There are nearly 40 different hormones that are produced and utilized for different functions in the human body.

For women, during the menopause years, including the time prior to menopause when irregular periods and other symptoms occur is when the first hormone Prosgesterone starts to decline. Indications of the decline can start 15 years before menopause occurs with symptoms that can include being irritable, anxious, etc. The next hormone to dwindle is estrogen which causes hot flashes, vaginal dryness and other symptoms that can last 2 or 3 years and sometimes longer. Following those two hormones, testosterone starts diminishing and with that goes physical stamina, sex drive and tissue degeneration.

Should we just let nature take its course and suffer through? NO!!

What does an imbalance of hormones have to do with cancer?

Estogen hormones come in three different forms: Estrone, Estriol, and Estradiol. One of the forms, Estrone, causes clots and is the one that stimulates the breasts, causing cancer. Estriol is the most beneficial of the three as it has anti-cancer characteristics. The synthetic hormones used in this day and age are derived from horse urine, have no Estriol and has nearly forty percent of equine estrogens which are not compatible with human female hormones.

The natural female cycle in which progesterone is created occurs only 15 days of every month. The usual synthetic progesterone prescription that is given is for each day of the month. A long list of female body problems occur from the synthetic hormones while on the other hand, the natural bioidentical hormones are created from natural sources such as soy or yam and modified to match the human hormones exactly.

Bioidentical progesterone gives improved mood, less irritability, less bloating, a relief from hot flashes, plus a decrease of other symptoms such as digestive problems, flatulence, and loss of memory. Bioidentical progesterone also reduces breast tenderness and reduces vaginal bleeding.

To conclude, synthetic progesterone has adverse affects on the female body creating other problems. The bioidentical hormone replacement therapy naturally brings a balance once again to the hormonal production which creates a higher quality life with happiness with improved cancer, brain and bone protection.

Why is cancer a concern in menopause?

During menopause, the cancer protective hormone, progesterone, drops while the cancer causing hormone estrone rises. Replacing hormones naturally with bioidentical hormones in women brings about the balance once again. Doing so creates a better quality of life that can be enjoyed, one that a women is happy, strong and vibrant.
