IBS Symptoms: Irritable Bowel Symptoms

By Runal Keronil

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a disease that is estimated to affect 15% of the population in the United States today. There are many IBS symptoms that can help to diagnose the disease, but there currently is no cure. The disease is one that can easily be misdiagnosed and often is mistaken for other diseases it shares its myriad of symptoms with. IBS is often accompanied with several other painful or dehibilitating medical conditions, which can also make its diagnosis a more difficult task. IBS symptoms can be treated in a number of ways and although IBS and IBS symptoms can be painful and inconvenient the disease is not thought to be deadly.

There are several common causes of IBS, which includes stress, anxiety, certain types of food, depression, hormonal changes in women and using certain types of medications such as antibiotics. Unfortunately, there are no significant cures for IBS, however the disease can be treated naturally by using herbs and supplements. I would like to share several natural, yet effective treatment for IBS sufferers.

The best way to determine if you have spastic colon is to see your doctor. He or she will ask you questions such as when your symptoms started, their intensity and when they tend to ease and worsen. Based on your answers, the doctor will be able to make a clear diagnosis of spastic colon.

Although there is no cure for IBS, there are treatments. These treatments may include diet changes, medicines, and stress relief. Your doctor might be able to help you with a treatment plan to see what works best for you. Some things that work for one person do not always work for another.

Doctors really don't know what causes IBS, but some suspect that IBS may be stress related. When you have IBS the nerves and muscles in the bowel seem to be extra sensitive. The muscles may contract to much when you eat causing pain. These contractions may cause diarrhea while eating or shortly after.

Bavolex's natural ingredients work with the body to relieve IBS symptoms. Lemon balm helps to reduce indigestion and gas. Camomile helps to reduce stress and anxiety. Fennel seed helps to reduce intestinal spasms. Together with other soothing extracts, these ingredients form a highly effective weapon against spastic colon/IBS.

Do You Need A Detoxification?

Because the the human system cannot eradicate detrimental toxins, they accumulate rendering it perilous to our health. To keep things from becoming worse, people are suggested to undergo a detox diet which is made to flush these toxins away through your pee. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few different programs and it might need you either to drink lots of fluid or to eat food that are heavy in fiber. Physical exercise is additionally recommended because perspiration is another way to free those toxins.

Those who have never attempted any kind of detox diet will get sick as they try this initially, although naturopaths say this is status quo because those toxins inside are released and those overwhelm the human body creating malaise. If you are able to make it through this program, those toxins would be flushed out leaving you with better looking skin, a healthy body and great satisfaction. Not just anyone can go on a detox diet which includes: people are who pregnant, kids and those that have been diagnosed with some kind of cancer and any other diseases, therefore to ensure that it is safe, talk to the physician.

Though there are no studies that proves the efficiency of detox diets, it wouldn't hurt you any to try especially if you eat a heavy fat and sugar diet, smoke, consume alcohol or take drugs. If you are not into such habits but go through aches and pains, behavioral problems, weariness, irritability, skin issues and finally tension, then again you should make some alterations.

Do you require a detox diet? That is one query just you could respond to once you've looked at yourself in the mirror or after getting the results of your latest medical checkup. The good thing about this technique is the fact that it informs you there's space to improve your total wellbeing.

If you're not really into the many detox methods that are out there, an additional choice would be to carry it out the way nature intended since the body has ways to eliminate those detrimental toxins which are the liver and even the kidneys. Still, if your kidneys and liver are not functioning at normal levels, this is probably the best possible alternative. Prevention is key which is why as you grow older, you should constantly watch what you eat and drink because it's in your hands the things you decide to allow inside your own body. You must additionally combine a healthy diet with exercise as it increases your metabolism and makes you sweat.

What makes the detox diet a lot different from any other diet program available is the fact that this is only for the short term. After a few days, you may return to the regular schedule since you will not be able to get all the nutrients you need based upon the food or the drink which is part of this program especially calcium as well as protein. However, if you do that, that signifies those detrimental poisons will build up again and you'll need to begin again. If you're smart and you learned your lesson, you will realize a few alterations would need to be made even if they don't occur quickly. Keep in mind, the detox diet is not the one choice that you have to improve your life.

Gallbladder Problems and Symptoms and a Natural Remedy

Most people know nothing about their gallbladder until it starts to cause them problems. As part of the digestive system it plays its part in helping to digest fats. Every year hundreds of thousands of people suffer from gallbladder disease, gallstones are on of the most common problems that affect people.

Women are twice as likely to develop gallbladder related problems and the pain associated with gallstones and other related illnesses can be excruciating. Most people find symptoms increase when they have eaten a fatty meal, this is because you are overloading your already weakened gallbladder.

Many people do not have any symptoms at all and do not realise that they are storing up problems for the future by continuing to eat a diet high in fats. Maintaining a healthy balanced diet and drinking plenty of water can help prevent this mainly self inflicted agony.

If you have or are going to consult your doctor it may be recommended that you have an operation to remove your gallbladder. Whilst this may be the only option for many surgically removing the gallbladder means you are losing an important internal organ. The loss of this organ can mean many unpleasant side effects such as diarrhea, nausea and an increased risk of colon and bowel cancer.

We have a gallbladder for a reason. Bile that is created by the liver is stored in the gallbladder ready to help with the digestion of the next meal. With no gallbladder to store this bile acid it passes through to the intestine which causes irritation and therefore diarrhea. The damage to the intestinal lining can lead to cancer.

No everybody needs to lose their gallbladder and can first try to flush any gallstones from their system naturally. This is surely a sensible option to save yourself from what is a serious operation that will affect the quality of your life for the rest of your life.

You can flush gallstones from your body if they are small enough and it can be done naturally. A simple gallbladder flush takes only 24 hours. One method is the extra virgin olive oil and grapefruit method.

You can also help keep not only your gallbladder but your entire digestive system healthy by making sure you eat a healthy balanced diet that is low in fat and high in fiber. Be sure to stay properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Keeping your digestive system healthy means less pain and discomfort and reducing the risk of adverse illness and disease.

How Spicy Foods Can Help Those With Ulcers

For years spicy foods have taken the blame for causing and aggravating ulcers in those who suffer from this issue. Ulcer suffers would go to great lengths to avoid foods that contained chili peppers and anything with capsaicin out of fear that they would upset their stomachs and cause themselves stomach pain. But science is helping to debunk this myth and prove that capsaicin does not cause ulcers and actually may help them.

Just what is an ulcer though? An ulcer is an open wound or sore in the lining of the stomach or in the upper part of the small intestine. For decades doctors thought these sores resulted from excess stress, spicy foods such as chili peppers, or even alcohol. But in 1982 two doctors discovered a bacterium that can thrive in the stomach and create these sores or ulcers.

Those who have an ulcer usually experience sharp pains in their stomach between the breastbone and the belly button. This can also be accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea, burping, weight loss, and more. Of course this is a condition that should be seen and treated by a physician. Self-diagnosis and treatment is never a good idea with any condition.

Though if you do have an ulcer, the myth that has spread for years that spicy foods will only aggravate your condition and cause you discomfort will make many avoid spicy food and capsaicin in their diet. But recent research is showing that capsaicin can reduce pain and help protect the lining of the stomach for those who are coping with ulcers.

There have been many studies on chilies and how the properties within capsaicin can actually reduce pain in the human body. The heat within the peppers signals the body to release endorphins, which relieves pain and promotes an overall feeling of well being. For those that suffer from ulcers this means that peppers with capsaicin will not induce pain in their stomach but will actually help them avoid the pain from the condition in a natural way.

Spicy food is also shown to help digestion and can actually rebuild the lining of the stomach making it easier for an existing ulcer to actually heal. Capsaicin increases blood flow to the area as well as encourages the stomach to secrete more digestive fluids all which help promote healing and will help prevent future ulcers from forming.

Studies are continually finding more and more health benefits of chili peppers. From helping those with ulcers to help losing weight and even reducing blood pressure the benefits are great while there are no side effects to worry about. So whether you prefer your chili peppers raw, in the form of salsa, or even as part of the seasoning to spice up your menu you can get all the benefits of capsaicin even if you have ulcers.

If you would love to spice up your food and get the excellent health benefits that come from eating spicy hot sauce, salsa, and more made from hot chili peppers than come to our hot sauce blog for more information. http://www.thesaucycontessa.com/

How to Treat Acid Reflux in Baby

By Richal Peyton

If you're suspecting acid reflux in baby, be aware that the condition doesn't just occur in older children and adults. Any suspicion of stomach related problems in your baby should be screened and diagnosed by a healthcare specialist. Babies suffering from acid reflux will show just about the same symptoms as adult sufferers. However, it can be more challenging to treat babies since they don't tend to follow certain methods all the time and may need more assistance. Take the steps in this article to effectively treat your baby.

Step 1: Watch Out For Symptoms

Coughing, spitting, bloody stool and vomiting are the common symptoms of acid reflux in baby. You may also notice that your baby is irritable and feeding poorly. A lot of babies actually experience these symptoms in the first 3 months.

There are some cases however, where babies will show more severe symptoms of acid reflux that can last from 12 to 18 months. Few babies have acid reflux due to other complications. These include breathing problems, poor growth, blood loss and irritability due to pain. While these complications can also be symptoms of acid reflux, they can be caused by other disorders.

Step 2: Have Your Baby Screened And Diagnosed

What usually happens is that your doctor will analyze your baby's symptoms and do a physical exam before giving you the result. If your doctor thinks your child may have a more severe condition, then he or she may recommend other diagnostic tests. These include lab tests, esophageal pH monitoring, upper GI series, and upper endoscopy.

Step 3: Follow Recommended Treatment

You may be given various forms of treatment. You may be advised to continue breastfeeding to reduce symptoms of acid reflux in baby. You may also be asked to feed your baby smaller amounts and more frequently, as overfeeding tends to worsen the condition. You may also try thickening the baby formula and see if there is any improvement in the next 3 to 5 days, otherwise stop.

Step 4: Maintain Your Baby's Health

Most steps in treatment of acid reflux in babies are preventive measures. Because acid reflux mainly involves stomach acid and enzymes, the condition can always come back if you don't maintain your baby's overall health. Always try to relax your baby by feeding it in a quiet place, keeping pressure away from its abdomen, and not allowing it to do vigorous activities or sit in upright positions after feeding.

Also, it is best to feed your baby portions frequently. Also burp your baby during and after feeding. This way, you can free the air accumulating in your baby's stomach and therefore reduce discomfort. Ditch the old baby bottle for a new one if the hole in its nipple is too large. Make sure that the hole is just the right size so that milk will not flow too fast. It shouldn't also be so small that your baby will become frustrated and swallow more air. Finally, let your baby sleep with some elevation under its back (about 30 degrees).

With these preventive measures, you may be able to treat your baby's condition without medical treatment. Just make sure that your doctor is informed about the methods you're doing at home so he or she can monitor any improvement in your child and advise when treatment should stop.

The Significance of Intestinal Bacteria

By Richard Bell

Intestinal Bacteria, commonly called Gut Flora are organisms that live in our intestines and keep us healthy by performing numerous significant tasks. On an average a human is known to have about thirty trillion microorganisms in their stomach, with more than five hundred types. They are as responsible for performing work as any of our main organs, but are never mentioned as something we need in order to stay healthy.

Our feces are about sixty percent bacteria, which is why doctors ask for a sample when we have an intestinal problem. This is the most non-invasive manner in which tests could be done to find the reason of the upset stomach.

When babies are born they have no bacteria in their system, however their body quickly picks up bacteria from the mother and surrounding environment, and within a few months their body builds up the healthy bacteria. Babies born by cesarean deliveries are likely to take a longer period of time to build up these bacteria as compared to babies born normally.

The bacteria in our stomach perform various different roles such as fermenting, maintaining a healthy resistance level, fighting the harmful bacteria, creating vitamins, and helping us store fat. Firstly they break down carbohydrates; as a result our body can absorb the nutrients from it. With no bacteria in our intestines, we would not have been able to break down a lot of food that we eat, and therefore would need to eat more to remain healthy.

These bacteria also stop the dangerous bacteria to grow in our digestive tract. Due to the struggle in the tract between different types of bacteria for room, the bad bacteria are unable to grow up because the helpful bacteria do not allow them to have any space. Humans with no any intestinal bacteria could to get sick more often when compared to those with normal levels.

These bacteria are also helpful in building up our immune system so we dont fall sick. Due to a tolerance for healthy bacteria that we develop in our childhood, the immune system is proficient to battle the bad bacteria, therefore leaving behind only the good bacteria. These bacteria are also helpful in preventing from all sorts of allergies and inflammatory bowel disease.

However, nowadays the use of antibiotics and other drugs is increasingly upsetting our digestive system, as the medicines are not able to differentiate between the several forms of bacteria in our body and wipe out the bad bacteria and the good. This is the main cause of diarrhoea and other sicknesses of the bowel. Although we may not be consuming antibiotics intentionally, a lot of the dairy and meat we consume nowadays is said to have the antibiotics, which are given to the animals to prevent them from several diseases. The use of Probiotics is now popular to help the good bacteria thrive in the gut, as probiotics are helpful for the bacteria to perform their functions by helping fight harmful bacteria and improving the resistance level of the body

It is important to know that not all bacteria are bad for us, and that our body has many millions of bacteria in it that are actually helping it stay healthy.

The Alkaline Food To Eat With Acid Reflux

By Richal Peyton

Without realizing it, most of us tend to eat more acid-forming food and much less alkalizing food. Dairy products, meats, are just some of the food we tend to eat more. As you may notice, even most children do not like vegetables. However, it's never too late to start gaining optimum health. Being on an alkaline diet is highly beneficial, and even more for those of us suffering from acid reflux. This article will talk about what alkaline is, what alkaline food to eat with acid reflux and why it works in treating the condition.

What Does Alkaline Mean?

Any food rich in alkaline has a pH level of over 7.0. On the other hand, anything that is acidic has a pH level of below 7.0. Foods vary in nutritional value, but also vary by pH level. There are many foods that are alkaline as well as acidic. Depending on your specific needs, you may need more alkaline foods in your diet, but generally, everyone needs more alkaline foods for better health.

Why Do We Need More Alkaline Foods?

We sometimes need something to counteract the excess acids since over-acidity in the body can cause a myriad of health conditions. For those of us who suffer from acid reflux, we are even in a worse situation because we're often already predisposed to having more acid in the stomach than needed.

Although there are certain positions or activities may trigger acid reflux, but it is mainly what we eat that makes symptoms worse. Since acid reflux mainly involves acid traveling from the stomach to the esophagus, we need to keep acid levels down by eating less acidic or non-acid-forming foods.

Is There An Alkaline Diet?

You can find alkaline diet recommendations online. An alkaline diet basically means having meal plans that mainly incorporate alkaline food. Often times, alkaline diets will require you to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, vegetable roots, nuts and legumes. Of course, everyone has different tastes in different dishes, so you may benefit from researching on recipes that cater more to your liking. You may also visit a dietician or nutritionist to discuss your preferences in a special diet.

What Are The Alkaline Foods I Can Use?

Alkaline food to eat for acid reflux would include a wide range of fruits and vegetables that are alkaline. You may have grapes, bananas, blackberries, apples, strawberries, melons, cauliflower, celery, beets, radishes, eggplants, and spinach in your special diet. As you can see, a lot of these alkaline fruits are delicious and fun to snack on. There is also a myriad of vegetables you can eat as a side dish.

This diet is not just limited to fruits and vegetables. Alkaline properties can also be found in other foods high in protein. Foods that contain alkalizing protein include fermented tofu, almonds, chestnuts, whey protein powder and tempeh.

You don't have to stay with the diet forever. The alkaline diet is fairly simple to follow once you're used to using alkaline ingredients while cooking.

Improve Your Health With Vinegar

By Boston B Stevenson

Vinegar has been used for more than ten thousand years and documented history tells us that vinegar has been an important condiment. Uses of vinegar range from beauty aides, effective germ fighter, preservative, antiseptic and general medicine. People have used vinegar to improve their health for decades. Vinegar is not a new idea as it has been used in worldwide cultural medicines for many years aiding the health of animals and humans alike.

Vinegar is made when any alcoholic liquid ferments. It is easy to see why you can improve your health with vinegar, as when naturally fermented it contains no fat, is low sodium and a rich source of trace elements, vitamins and minerals including sulfur, magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorus plus enzymes which contribute to wellness.

Over processed and over heated brands which are diluted and highly filtered are not the best option when buying vinegar to improve your health. Reading the labels and lchecking for the words organic, pure, unfiltered, or aged in wood. These varieties may be overlooked in a supermarket and are more likely to be found in a health food shop but may cost you more.

Vinegar comes from many sources with different flavours and aromas even in today's modern supermarket. Vinegar can also be made from potatoes, melons, honey, molasses, beets, sorghum, maple syrup, cactus, grapes and coconuts. A vinegar that has the highest nutritional value is apple cider vinegar and is readily available.

Greek and Roman soldiers have documented vinegar as a source of power and strength, so did Japanese Samurai warriors. during the Stone Age vinegar was used as a means of getting healthy and it is excellent for digesting high protein meals and heavy foods. This aide to digestion may explain why it is a favourite with "Fish and Chips" one of the favoured foods in our modern day diet.

You can also use vinegar to improve your health in many other ways and these will be looked at further in the articles to come: Killing bacterial and fungal infections As a hair rinse to treat seborrhea and dandruff Enzymes to improve your gallbladder health As a remedy for indigestion and liver stagnation For the treatment of osteoporosis, memory loss and arthritis In a footbath to soften calluses and relieve athlete's foot Children's ear infections Regulate Blood pressure. Weight loss

You can also improve your health with vinegar by using it as a preventative measure against backache especially if you are a keen gardener, as vinegar will kill those prolific nuisance weeds like Clover, Dandelion, Thistle and Ragweed. If you think about this there are multiple health benefits when you use vinegar to get rid of weeds because the chemicals found in many synthetic weed killers can be extremely dangerous not only to us, but also to our pets and the wildlife in our gardens.

Commercial weed killers can affect the surrounding areas and poison the adjacent plants or grass. This means you not only kill the weed but run the risk of harming your garden and lawn. Vinegar used in the garden can be referred to as, organic gardening, as it is considered biodegradable. There is no need to worry about the PH value of your soil either because although vinegar decreases this, it will restore to its original PH within a couple of days.

Keeping your garden free of weeds and not suffering the backache associated with the pulling out of weeds is a pleasant and surprising way to improve your health with vinegar.

The Benefits of Colon Cleansing

Most of us assume our digestive systems will give us problems from time to time - we believe acid indigestion, constipation, gas and stomach pain are all part of life. The fact is, most of these problems can be eliminated. Bad habits in our lifestyles contribute to the development of harmful toxins in our systems. These toxins, which originate in our colons, can be purged with the help of colon cleansers. A colon cleanse can not only produce a clean, well-functioning colon, it can provide a host of other benefits as well, all leading to your overall good health.

One of the many benefits of colon cleansing is the quick elimination of waste product from our bodies, thus ridding us of constipation and problems associated with prolonged toxins in our bloodstream. Our digestive systems are not meant to process the unnatural foods that we eat today, therefore our systems have to work harder to excrete this waste. If food waste remains in our colon for an extended period of time, it produces toxins that can circulate back into our systems. It's easy to deduce that our colons can get clogged with mucoid plaque and toxic matter. Eating healthy and cleaning our colons periodically will help eliminate any ill effects from waste toxins.

Colon cleansing is also said to improve many ailments such as acne, digestive problems, ulcers, Candida, and others. When the colon cannot perform efficiently, the burden is placed on other digestive organs to take up the slack and the entire digestive system malfunctions. Vitamins and nutrients cannot be properly absorbed and this leads to a form of malnutrition. All organs depend on vitamins and nutrients to function well, therefore when they are not getting enough, problems such as acne, ulcers, and more can result. Eliminating toxins from our bodies through colon cleansing will cure the root cause of many common ailments and allow our bodies to assimilate and metabolize more nutrients from our food.

Gaining more energy and a positive outlook on life are yet more benefits to a colon cleanse. When we eliminate waste and toxins, we improve the balance in our systems and restore our metabolic production of energy and mental function. Our overall vitality and zest for life increases. The more we detoxify, the happier we become.

Perhaps an unexpected benefit from colon cleansing is the development of a taste for more wholesome foods. A natural reaction to cleansing toxins from our body is a shift in the kinds of foods we crave. Once the food additives, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and other such unnatural chemicals leave our bodies, we find that those types of foods no longer seem appealing. Not only that, but the toxins will no longer affect our salivary glands and give our taste buds a sour, acid flavor. We will then be able to enjoy the full flavor of our food. Bon appetite!

Colon cleansing produces many benefits to your health and body. An overwhelming number of choices exist for colon cleansers. An effective colon cleansing product should obviously clean your colon of harmful wastes and toxins, but it should also improve your digestive system and your overall health. A thorough analysis of product reviews for colon cleansers is recommended to achieve best results.

Natural Remedies For Irritable Bowel Syndrome: 6 Tips To Reduce IBS

There are various ways you can reduce or even cure your IBS with natural remedies. Here are some things to try out to reduce the discomfort of irritable bowel syndrome.

1. Ditch the artificial sweeteners

Whilst this may not be classed as a traditional "remedy" it's certainly worth doing. Artificial sweeteners are used all over and have been shown to cause gas and bloating. As you would expect, they are used in lots of diet products including soft drinks and other low calorie foods. But you need to check the ingredients list as they are also used in potato chips, toothpaste, mouth wash, chewing gum and a myriad of other products. Watch out for Sorbitol, Aspartame, Xylitol and other sugar substitutes. If there is no ingredients list, move on to the next product (if it's your favorite product, check the manufacturer's website for more information).

2. Eat more fiber

Especially soluble fiber. This will help your bowels to move more naturally which in turn should reduce their irritability. If you follow the current recommendations of eating more fruit and vegetables, you'll be on your way. Just make sure that they have suffered little if any processing. This means eating real fruit, not drinking juice or smoothies. Ideally your vegetables should be steamed or oven cooked rather than deep fried. So that means cutting down on the french fries. Sorry!

3. Get more friendly bacteria

It's not just an advertising gimmick. You can get probiotic drinks that you keep in the refrigerator and drink one a day. Or you can get a pot of Acidophilus from your local health food shop and keep that cool instead. Go for the highest strength available for maximum benefit.

4. Try peppermint tea

Peppermint has been used since ancient times to help with healing your digestive system. Brew a cup of peppermint tea instead of automatically reaching for coffee the next time you want a hot drink. It's a refreshing drink as well as helping your digestion.

5. De-stress your life

Stress is one of the major causes of IBS. Whilst modern western life seems to breed stress, there are ways of at least reducing it and they are well worth exploring. Treat yourself to some "you" time. Put on a favorite song or listen to one of the many purpose made relaxation MP3s available. If you can spare the time, investigate taking a local yoga class. Or look into one of the newer meditation methods that do almost all the hard work of meditation for you, leaving you free to relax and enjoy the experience rather than concentrating on a candle or a mantra.

6. Cut down on the caffeine

Caffeine can be a contributor to your IBS. Trouble is, it's quite an addictive drug. Which means that if you are used to drinking lots of coffee every day, you may need to reduce the amount you're drinking over a week or two, rather than cut it out completely overnight. Decaffeinated coffee has improved and almost tastes the same as regular. Just be careful to check how the coffee you change to has its caffeine removed as the chemicals in some of the processes can add their own issues.

Nutritional Benefits of Probiotics

Healthy adults around the globe can benefit from adding probiotic supplements to their diet. One major population that can gain health-related rewards from this practice are senior citizens. Many senior citizens must maintain regimens of prescription medication. This practice, along with a poor diet or simple stress, can weaken the body's natural immunities. A probiotic supplement can help strengthen the body naturally.

Probiotics function as friendly bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. They have been reported to assist in numerous common ailments. The helpful microorganisms reside in the tract as a barrier against other harmful bacteria and pathogens that can cause a variety of illnesses. This is a natural process overall. Scientists report that there are over 400 of these microorganisms living in a healthy gastrointestinal tract.

The friendly bacteria stimulate the body's production of necessary digestive enzymes. This improves the overall digestive system. They help the body to produce a variety of B vitamins as well as give the body vitamin K. They also offer a boost of antioxidants to strengthen the immune system.

Probiotic bacteria can be taken in many forms today. It is available in the grocery store in many dairy products. Yogurt and cheeses offer the highest levels because the bacteria are often used in processing milk into dairy products. They may also be found in some varieties of pickles and fruit juice.

Probiotic supplements are also available in a variety of forms at your nearest health and nutrition store. They are available in powders, tablets, capsules and in granulated form. All are taken orally and may be mixed with food.

These helpful organisms have been shown to decrease allergic reactions in patients who have lactose intolerance or hay fever. Some individuals with skin conditions such as eczema have reported some relief after developing their own regular regimen.

Our bodies are constantly changing. These changes may greatly decrease the body's natural defenses. Antibiotics are often necessary in our body's fight against infection. This also means that the antibodies will target both good and bad bacteria. You may be more susceptible to contracting illness once your round of antibiotics has stopped.

Stress is often a major factor in weakening our bodies. Senior citizens may experience greater amounts due to the changes in life and their environments. A probiotic regimen may help alleviate these issues and prevent many common illnesses with regular use.

Poor diet is another major factor in the loss of helpful bacteria. Carbonated beverages are common in our diets and may deplete the levels normal in the human body. They may also diminish your body's probiotic levels. Other contributing factors that will lessen your body's natural defenses include:

* Depression/Anxiety

* Non-organic foods

* Excessive sugars or fats in diet

* Influenza or stomach flu

* Urinary tract infections

* Yeast infections

These friendly bacteria will have a wonderful impact on those who incorporate a probiotic routine into their daily diet. Your physician will provide detailed information based upon your current state of health.

The Medicinal Uses Of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Honestly, natural apple cider vinegar is one of nature's own, true miracle health elixirs. The long history of its use demonstrates, rather clearly, that using vinegar was once highly revered as a practical medical application long before Johnny Appleseed graced North America by planting apple trees.

The healing powers of vinegar has been traced back as far as 3000 BC, Hippocrates, Babylonia, and to 15th century England as a means to ward off dangerous and infectious diseases, to keep one's general health fit and strong, and used as a simple antiseptic/disinfectant.

When deciding to use ACV for medicinal purposes, be sure to select only a raw, non-distilled vinegar. You may be able to find this type of vinegar in your regular grocery store. But more likely than not, you will probably need to look for it at a local health food store.

Clear distilled vinegar is easy to find in any food store and is relatively inexpensive. This type of vinegar is great for regular household cleaning chores, but it is not so wonderful for your internal health. Non-distilled vinegars are definitely going to be more expensive and nutritionally potent than the distilled varieties, but isn't your health worth the price difference? Plus, you are going to have the satisfaction of knowing that you have chosen the right mixture that will work hard to enhance your health.

Most commercial brands (whether white or brown) have been pasteurized, filtered, and refined or distilled in order to make the final product look more attractive to please the consumer. The manufacturers are only giving the consumer what they apparently seem to want. Unfortunately, unbeknown to the average consumer, this extra processing actually destroys much of the natural health restorative properties of the end product.

Look for ACVs that have been cold pressed and made from whole, organically grown apples, with no added chemical preservatives, and in which the 'mother' of vinegar liquid has been retained. This 'mother' substance, as it is lovingly known, is the gelatinous liqueur that is naturally formed during the final fermentation process.

This milky, cloudy, and stringy looking stuff at the bottom of the container is what contains the healthiest part of the mixture. It also lets you know that the important vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and naturally occurring good bacteria have not been compromised due to over processing, filtration, or excessive heating. Before consuming, shake the the bottle gently to thoroughly distribute all of the nutrients, pour, and serve.

An energy boosting way to drink ACV, without it taking your breath away, is to mix about 2 teaspoons with an equal amount of raw honey in a small glass of warm water. Stir to dissolve the honey and drink one to three times a day. You can sip on this drink during a meal for extra digestive power, or you can drink this ahead of a meal. Refrain from drinking to much water or any other beverage during your meal, and for up to an hour afterward. Give your gastric stomach juices enough time to fully break down the food you just ate, on its own, without weakening their effects with added liquids.

Why use apple cider vinegar? Because, when it is used medicinally it helps the body rid itself of harmful toxins, has wonderful disinfecting properties as a natural bad germ fighter, and is a very biodegradable substance that does not pollute the environment.

With regular and continued use, this wonderful liquid helps restore and balance the body's pH, taking it from acidic to neutral in a short amount of time. Normally, it would be hard to believe that such an acidic substance could normalize, or lower our pH so easily. As far as I know, this only applies to vinegar, as our digestive system will naturally convert it to an alkaline based substance.

An acidic internal system is directly caused from eating excessive amounts of meat, grains, and sugar by eating and drinking too many processed foods and beverages. This will provide an invitation, internally, for unwanted illness or disease to set up house. Otherwise, a neutral or more alkaline system will promote an enhanced emotional and physical health state.

Raw, ACV contains over 40 different naturally occurring substances from vitamins and minerals, to enzymes and beneficial bacteria. It has been used for generations to treat a variety of different human health conditions such as,
1.arthritis
2.high blood pressure
3.all types of skin problems
4.chronic fatigue and insomnia
5.heartburn and other digestive abnormalities
6.high cholesterol and blood sugar
7.maintaining normal body weight

This is not exhaustive list, by far, of common health maladies that ACV has been known to eliminate. As with any new diet addition, your expectations may be too high in the healing effects of vinegar. Keep in mind that it is not to be considered a panacea for all ill health evils.

Although many individuals have achieved a more improved physical state by using vinegar, without modifying their daily dietary habits, serious diet modifications need to be considered in some hard-core cases. Doing so would further enhance a partial response when combined with a healthier diet.

This is, especially, a key factor when using vinegar for serious weight loss. You simply must reduce or eliminate your consumption of over processed foods, eat more raw plant foods, eat smaller meals more often, and step up your effort in getting regular and moderate physical exertion. These strategies combined with ACV will take you a long way in seeing the results you are hoping for, and quicker. It is possible to lose up to one to three pounds a week.

Remember too...that diet modifications include increasing daily liquid intake. Apple cider vinegar works best when adequate liquids are supplied to help carry out the toxins we ingest and are exposed to every day.

Not just any liquids, but read this to mean WATER exclusively. Start reducing the amounts of other beverages you may be drinking instead, such as soft drinks, coffee, tea, fruit juices, and alcohol. Moderation, in occasionally consuming these, is absolutely crucial in maintaining a healthy body weight (even if your underweight), or if you are trying to lose weight.

When used as a flavor seasoning, or drinking as a healthy tonic, ACV could have your current health issue becoming a thing of the past. As with any type of natural or conventional health treatment, be realistic. Expect a reasonable amount of time for vinegar to take affect. This may be only a few days, a week, or it could be longer. If you are really committed to giving it a real chance, you may look forward to a much different health reality sooner than you think

7 Things To Do After You Have Cleansed Your Colon

If you have cleansed your colon recently, and especially if you have cleansed it for the first time, it is a possibility that you are experiencing the die-off effect of the whole process. This die-off effect is usually a temporary and a negligible side effect of colon cleansing. Actually when the colon is cleansed, all the toxins are eliminated and destroyed which gives way to weakness, nausea, fatigue, bloating, bad breath, acne and even diarrhea.

However, one should not be scared of this die-off effect as it a very essential part of the colon cleansing process. Since it is possible that the whole process can make a person feel woozy and tired, it is better to minimize the effects of this die-off effect which can be done by following the simple tips below:

Drink plenty of water. Whenever you feel little discomfort or headache during the whole process, drink some water to minimize the pain and discomfort.

Also taking a vitamin C supplement regularly will help, as it has huge immune system benefits. While choosing a supplement, one should try to select a product which is readily absorbed by our body.

Try to increase the electrolyte level of your body by including more of stews and broths in your diet. This will result in increased energy levels for you.

Regular exercising and detox baths will help you to get rid of all the unwanted toxins from your body through sweating. It will result in a glowing and beautiful skin for you. However, during colon cleansing it is better to avoid over-exercising as you also need ample rest during the process.

Also advisable is to take a pro biotic to replenish the good bacteria in your digestive track. Also try to avoid over- eating during colon cleansing as it will make the entire process futile. Always remember that taking Psyllium husk supplements cannot eliminate the hard and compact fecal matter stuck in the inner walls of the colon for years, but can definitely take care of the undigested remains in your body.

Try including Nutrition yeast flakes in your diet as they are a good source of vitamin B and trace minerals. You can simply mix the nutrition yeast flakes in liquids like soups, fruit juices or milk. Nutrition yeast flakes are proven to be very affective and are bound to make a difference for you.

Last but not the least, try some relaxation methods like meditation, music or reading. The whole process of colon cleansing is bound to make you a bit stressed and hence these methods will help you to make the whole process simpler and smoother for you.

Acid Reflux Treatments Explained

By Jennifer King

When you get help from your doctor for your Gastro esophageal reflux disease ( GERD ) issue, they usually examine you, and in some cases, will do some further testing. When your doctor determines that Gastro esophageal reflux disease is the reason for your symptoms, the advice regularly given is to make some changes to what you eat and the way you sleep. You will always be given a prescription as well. Most doctors favorite prescription is a proton pump inhibitor that retards stomach acid production while allowing your esophagus and other tissues to get better. However, not all GERD sufferers want to take any drugs, and for many, they never seem to work. If you don't want these cures, you have the option of looking into some Gastro esophageal reflux disease homeopathy treatments to ease your suffering.

The difference between prescription medicine and a natural cures is that medicine is given based on the symptoms, and natural remedies are given to attack the problem from the cause The thought is that by healing the acid reflux from the cause the symptoms will disappear.

It's possible do a few things to aid in digestion, and you may discover they are all that you need. You may discover that just taking digestive enzymes relieves your GERD. This can be either by eating raw foods or taking a digestive enzyme tablet with your meals. You can try eating smaller meals, and not eating within a few hours of bed time. Doing these couple of things will help the supplements work better and will keep your stomach moving.

You could be suffering from other complications that might be a result of leaking acid that GERD natural treatments may also address. These could be ailments like a sore throat, excess gas, indigestion, and painful bloating. These problems are all treatable, and normally targeting the digestive system can eliminate them. Remember that acid reflux natural treatments are not just about supplements and herbs. These remedies address the reasons of your Gastro esophageal reflux disease so then the symptoms disappear. Any prescription drug you get from your health practitioner will just cure your symptoms with the goal that the symptoms will disappear after your prescription medicine stops. If the reason for your Gastro esophageal reflux disease is still there afterwards then the symptoms will return. Many people end up on these prescription antacids for years, when addressing the reason of their Gastro esophageal reflux disease would have cured them at the first attempt. The longer the cause is left the harder it becomes to cure you.

Managing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Chron's Disease Through Your Diet

Individuals who suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Crohn's Disease benefit from eating certain foods and watching out for others. IBD and Crohn's disease involves inflammation of the intestines. Ulcers form and become inflamed which can cause scarring and bleeding.

The symptoms of these diseases include diarrhea, acute abdominal pain, cramping, fever and fatigue. It's very important to receive good nutrition in order to manage the symptoms of IBD and Crohn's Disease. It is also important to receive proper nutrition in order to avoid extreme weight loss.

If you have IBD or Crohn's Disease you ought to stay well-hydrated by drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Staying hydrated helps prevent constipation. You may also have been advised to take a daily multivitamin by your doctor or dietitian. A daily multivitamin and mineral supplement helps replace lost nutrients which can be lost due to your condition.

It's also very important that your diet be one that's high in fiber during times you are not experiencing a flare-up of IBD or Chron's Disease.

High fiber foods include whole grain breads, bagels, buns, and muffins. There are also whole grain cereals such as Bran Flakes, All Bran, bran buds, corn bran and Shredded Wheat, as well as 100% Bran and fiber 1. You can eat cooked cereal such as Oat Bran and whole-wheat pastas, and whole grains including popcorn, barley, corn and brown rice.

Fruits can also be high in fiber such as dried fruits, oranges, berries, apples with the skin, avocado, mango, kiwi, and also pear.

Vegetables which contain high amounts of fiber include spinach, dried peas, broccoli, Swiss chard, green peas and other leafy, green vegetables, and beans (such as kidney beans and lima beans, black-eyed beans, chickpeas and lentils).

Seeds and nuts such as almonds, whole flaxseed and soy nuts are also very good for you to eat .

When you're experiencing an IBD flare-up it's crucial to limit the amount of fiber in your diet and to adopt a low-fiber diet or even switch to a low residue diet in order to rest your intestinal tract and reduce symptoms you experience. Your doctor or dietitian can give you more information about these types of diets.

You'll also need to avoid lactose-containing foods such as dairy products if you are lactose intolerant.

Even with following a low-fiber diet, it is important to continue to receive adequate nutrients during flare-ups. Eat smaller meals and eat foods high in protein such as lean meats, fish and eggs. You may also be told to drink some recommended nutritional drinks such as Ensure in order to rest your bowel. Always follow your doctor or nutritionist's instructions.

To help minimize and control IBD flare-ups, limit the caffeine in beverages or foods, the alcohol that you consume and any sorbitol (sweetener) as these can make your symptoms worse.

Try also to limit or avoid gas-producing foods because these can intensify your symptoms. The major gas-producing foods include broccoli, dried peas, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and lentils as well as onions, chives, and peppers. Limit your ingestion of carbonated drinks as these can also make your symptoms worse.

Reducing your fat intake will also help due to the fact that foods with fat can cause diarrhea and gas. There has been some research which shows that taking fish oil and flax seed oil may be beneficial for treating IBD or Chron's Disease.

Constipation Remedies And Colon Cleansing

By Keith M. Henry

Colon cleansing is becoming very popular, and is becoming more and more routine among those who want better health. A colon cleanse can be very beneficial for all sorts of ailments even abnormalities like chronic constipation and acne

Constipation can be caused because of irritable bowel movements, excessive and chronic use of laxatives, worry, anxiety, fear, lack of physical activity and problems with intestinal function (chronic idiopathic constipation) etc. However, the most common reasons for constipation are a diet low in fiber or a diet that is high in fats, such as cheese, eggs, and meat.

Bowel Friendly Foods

Grapes have proved highly beneficial in overcoming the occurrence of constipation. The combination of the properties of the cellulose sugar and organic acid in grapes make them a laxative food. Fennel has properties in curing digestive problems. The regular use of fennel will normalize the working of the digestive system and heal the constipation problems. Fennel has exceptional properties in curing digestive problems. It is traditionally provided in Indian cuisine after each meal. It is also found in some commercial colon cleanses.

Fruit salads with fruit such as guava and papaya can be very helpful in cases of constipation. Such fruit salad provides good roughage that helps clear your bowel system and thus prevent constipation. In fact the regular consumption of papaya in the morning on an empty stomach helps prevent constipation. Fruits naturally contain the right balance of distilled water and nutrients to act as natural constipation remedies.

Exercise

Exercise, or lack thereof, is seen as a cause of constipation because some believe that without regular exercise our metabolic rate slows, which means a longer digestive cycle and thus less regular bowel movement. Among other reasons the fact is, the longer the stool spends in your digestive system, the more water is excreted from the stool, which results in a harder stool which is more difficult and painful to pass.

Colon Cleanse

A dependable commercial colon cleanse will typically be plant based and will support and encourage intestinal detox with a combination of bulk fibers, natural laxative-like compounds, and so forth. As an illustration psyllium husk and fruit pectins provide essential fiber to the digestive tract, whilst herbs like Slippery Elm bark, Cascara Sagrada, and Marshmallow powder promote natural flushing of the colon.

In a nutshell bad eating habits, lack of exercise, not drinking enough water etc., lead to constipation, and the sooner these habits are dropped and corrective habits instituted, the sooner relief from constipation will be realized.

Long Term Stress Causes Long Term Problems

If stress is ignored for a long time, and the person suffering chooses not to address the underlying causes, then this is considered long term. Long-term stress can cause damage - both psychological and physical - to the patient. Paradoxically, the damage caused can in itself bring on stress, thus creating a vicious cycle.

Untreated, stress can intensify into anxiety or into depression, both of which can cause very serious long-term problems. Again, both of these conditions carry with them both psychological and physical components; a sufferer of depression may distance themselves from friends and family, thus setting up a situation where their pain is intensified.

The physical results of depression and anxiety can include cardiac issues. Most directly, it can cause a condition called unstable angina. Sudden and crippling chest pain results from constricted oxygen flow to the heart. Obviously this can set a person up for heart attacks and there have been incidents of sudden stress causing a blockage of heart arteries.

High blood pressure can be brought on, or exacerbated, by anxiety or depression. The effects of high blood pressure can be very serious and may lead to strokes; at the very least, patients find it necessary to take long-term medication in order to regulate their blood pressure.

Less serious (though still debilitating) conditions can be triggered by stress. It may lead to a compromised immune system, which leaves one more vulnerable to a range of everyday viruses and bacteria such as colds, flu and strep. Tension can also cause upsets in a patient's digestive system, irritating the bowel and other parts of the digestive system. While they are rarely dangerous, symptoms such as bloating, constipation, gas, and diarrhea are distasteful and frustrating.

Coupled with digestive problems the food habits of a sufferer may be affected, causing eating disorders. Some people turn to food as a comfort, while others may find themselves unable to eat. In extreme cases, obesity and anorexia may be brought on by the effects of anxiety and depression. Eating disorders are not the only problem; increased rates of diabetes and arthritis have been linked to stress, and its debilitating effects may interfere with long-term management of those conditions.

Yet another problem is sleep disorders. Anxiety can cause a sufferer to toss and turn at night, missing the sleep that is so vital for stress management. Once again, a cycle is created of anxiety leading to interrupted sleep, which itself contributes to the underlying problem. In this situation it is common for sufferers to turn to sleeping pills or other artificial sleep aids in order to get the sleep that is so desperately needed. But of course, these methods of sleep management carry with them inherent risks which can turn into long-term problems.

There are a variety of ways to reduce the stress in your life, many of which you can put into action for yourself. You'll find many effective tips for stress management at http://www.BeyondStressed.com

Acid Reflux: Alternative and Complementary medications.

By Frank Robson

While some leading medications work for everyone, they actually make the Acid Reflux worse after you stop taking them. In particular, when a patient takes the medications classed as Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI), they inhibit the production of acid. When these medications are discontinued, it is observed that the body responds and bounces back with more acid secretion. This is called "rebound hypersecretion," It is, thus, often advisable for people taking PPI's to avoid sudden stoppage of medication

There are some know herbs for heartburn remedies. A tea made from caraway seeds, coriander, chamomile, anise, fennel and angelica, may be taken after a meal to relieve symptoms. Teas made from peppermint and spearmint leaves are contraindicated in allopathy. Peppermint and caraway seed oils taken in capsule form for four weeks may also be beneficial.

Many experts depend on roots and herbs. In Ayurveda, the ancient Hindu art of medicine and prolonging life, ginger root is commonly used. Consuming up to 500 mgs per day may actually cause you to have fewer occurrences of acid reflux.

Symptoms may also be reduced be adding extra fiber to your diet. The acid from food is easily digested by fiber. The extra fiber has the added bonus of keeping you body regular. If you have a problem adding raw foods you have the option of taking your fiber in a pill form or as a water-soluble powder.

Stop smoking. Nicotine causes a relaxation of the esophageal sphincter, allowing fluids to swish around freely. Sometimes smoking and stress are related, and both need to be reduced, as both affect your digestion.

Citrus fruit, potatoes, Buffalo wings, ground beef, raw onions, chicken nuggets, cheese, ice cream, spaghetti, liquor and wine, coffee and tea and some salad dressings are all foods that you should avoid.

Licorice (sold in health food stores), Meadowsweet (an antacid and anti-inflammatory that helps protect the digestive tract), Papain (helps to make the digestion of food more efficient), Chamomile (aids in digestion) and marshmallow (combined with chamomile works as an anti-inflammatory) have all been used with success as natural alternatives.

Acid reflux can be treated alternatively by making some simple lifestyle changes such as maintaining a good diet and controlling your weight. Managing your stress will also be beneficial in handling this problem.
