Preventing Coronary Artery Disease

By Scott Williams

Coronary Artery Disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. It is a disease that involves a narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood, oxygen and other nutrients to the muscle of the heart. It may seem strange if you haven't studied anatomy and physiology, but even though the heart has blood flowing through it constantly, this blood does not supply oxygen and nutrients to the muscle of the heart.

There are three main arteries that supply blood to the heart - the Left Anterior Descending artery, the Circumflex artery and the Right Coronary Artery. Each of these arteries split into smaller arteries and then blood vessels. Coronary Artery Disease can impact any of these arteries and vessels.

There are many risk factors that can affect your likelihood of contracting this disease. Common risk factors for coronary artery disease include being overweight, not exercising and suffering from hypertension or high cholesterol. Diabetes, family history and age can also affect your chances of contracting this disease, which usually presents itself as atherosclerosis, which are deposits that build up in your vessels restricting the volume of blood that can flow through.

Blood vessels usually have the ability to stretch to let more blood through, but those who suffer from coronary artery disease lose this ability. Then when plaque build up inside the vessels is added in when the heart really needs the blood, such as when you exercise it will not get it.

When your heart is not receiving enough blood you can experience angina, or recurring chest pains. By taking it easy and removing the triggers such a stress or overexertion you can help relieve the pain, or by taking medication. If there is plaque build up on the blood vessel walls then chances are that eventually a chunk will come off and completely block the blood supply to areas of your heart, which will result in a major heart attack.

With proper treatment, lifestyle adjustments and perhaps surgical intervention those who suffer from coronary artery disease can lead normal, happy, healthy lives. If you think that you may be at risk then you should consult your doctor immediately

Essential Oils Guide

By Lee Dobbins

Aromatherapy uses smells for healing and is an age old way of healing. Essential oils are responsible for these smells and are oils that are extracted from certain plants. These oils have been used for healing since ancient times.

Smell is one of our strongest senses. Did you ever get a whiff of a scent that brought you back to an earlier time in your life? Perhaps the perfume of an old girlfriend or the cologne your father wore. In fact, scent forms a response in your brain and has a tight relationship with memory.

In aromatherapy, essential oils are used which are inhaled due to their scent. In addition, they can be applied to the skin for a nice scent of your body and absorption into your blood stream! Essential oils are used in many massage oil mixture, lotions and creams.

You can enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy at home. Simply purchase a diffuser and some essential oils; there are many to choose from, and you can experiment with your own scents. Aromatherapy is healthy and will help you relax and ease daily tension.

Aromatherapy can even be an alternative to prescription medicines when used along with your doctors permission. They are typically safe although if you are allergic to a certain plant you will probably be allergic to the essential oils from that plant. Also since essential oils are highly concentrated you want to dilute them before using them on your skin or you could have adverse side effects from too much being absorbed into your blood at once, conjunction with your doctors advice of course.

You can treat minor health problems with essential oils, and they may even help your immune system. Use aromatherapy to alleviate joint pain, cramps, insomnia, headache, and to improve skin health by increasing circulation and tone.

Begin A Full Body Detox With Your Mindset

By Cindy Soto

First, what a full body detox is not. It's not just taking pills, even natural ones.

Rather than a quick fix, it's the recognition that the body needs to cleanse and rest from its many labors.

Begin the whole body detox with your mindset.

Your body has loved and supported you through all you've done over many years. You've focused on the things you want to do, often taking for granted that your body would be there for you.

It's a sign of the times that meals are rushed and the needs of the body often come last on the long to do list.

A shift in your mind, your attention, is needed - listen to your body for the next few weeks.

Recognize the beliefs that hold you back, like the one that all thinking is from your brain.

This is patently false. The trillions of cells in the body have an intelligence of their own. Together, they do an amazing job of keeping things running in perfect harmony.

Thank the wonderful body that keeps you going even though it has to deal with so many challenges it was not designed for: insufficient nutrients and minerals, toxins from "food", air toxins, and even electronic interference from cell phones and computers.

Help your body with a 3 week (the body's normal cleansing cycle) full body detox.

More than half the accumulated waste (from years of bad eating, insufficient exercise and otherwise stressful lives) is released during the first 3 weeks.

Life is a great gift, give back to your body. And really listen during this time.

Tired and stressed out?

Take a nap if you can, or rest. Leave off the caffeine.

Be aware of how you feel after a meal. Are you feeling drained?

While it's true that digestion uses the most energy of the body's processes, it is the type of food that leaves you feeling tired. It is the foods without nutrients or enzymes that leave you wiped out.

It's not normal to feel drained.

See how different you feel on a salad with organic lettuce and sprouts.

There are many things you can do as part of a full body detox, but it all starts with your mind and your willingness to listen to your body.

Common Uses for Bach Flower Essences

By Shannon Hutcheson

For thousands of years, our ancestors used natural remedies to help individuals with physical or mental health problems. These formulas were passed from generation to generation for centuries until modern medicine came into being. Modern medicine, while it saves lives and does amazing things, may be missing out on the potential benefits associated with natural health products.

The Origin of Bach Flower Essences

Bach Flower Essences are named for Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician. He was an extremely successful physician but felt concerned about the tendency of modern medicine to focus on disease, rather than the patient's health as a whole. He gave up his practice in 1930 and devoted his time and energy to finding natural remedies.

Dr. Bach found that there were 38 essences that would unblock the natural health potential in himself and his patients. These 38 essences corresponded to various mental states and were composed of refined herbal extracts.

What Exactly Are the Bach Flower Essences?

Bach Flower Essences are natural remedies made using an all-natural process. Natural wild flower infusions are added to spring water by steeping it in the sun or by boiling it. Hand made in England, the 38 Bach Flower Essences are preserved using grape brandy.

The principle behind the use of natural remedies like the Bach Flower Essences is that there is a mind-body connection. If the mind is at peace, then the body will also return to a healthy condition. This natural health approach is based on the idea that dispelling negative feelings like anger, anxiety, and indecisiveness will allow the body to heal itself.

How Animals Can Benefit from Bach Flower Essences

Most animal lovers will tell you that animals also feel emotions. You can tell when your dog is depressed or anxious or when he feels jealous or angry. Animal behavior is also affected by these emotions, so it important to get animal emotions in balance. Bach Flower Essences are one way to help restore emotional equilibrium in your pet.

Bach Flower Essences During Pregnancy

Both your intuition and you doctor will tell you that you must be careful what you consume during pregnancy. There is a long list of forbidden foods and medications. However, Bach Flower Essences are not on that list. They promote natural health and are safe for expectant mothers.

Pregnancy is a time of great emotional turmoil, making it also a very important time to consider natural remedies for emotional issues. Hormonal imbalances and simply adjusting to the state of pregnancy can cause rush of feelings that are difficult to process and can lead to health problems. Bach Flower Essences are one of the safest ways to deal with these concerns.

Children and Bach Flower Essences

Childhood is often described as a carefree time, but most of us know that simply isn't true. Children, especially the children of today, feel anxious and depressed at times. These feelings can lead to greater health problems and should be resolved as quickly and simply as possible.

Since you don't want to endanger your child's health with any unnecessary chemicals, natural remedies are a good way to restore balance to your child's emotional health. Bach Flower Essences are completely safe for children and babies.

Why Natural Health is Sometimes Better

Conventional medicine is extremely effective in many areas; however, there is a tendency, as Dr. Bach discovered, for many medical doctors to focus on curing specific physical ailments, rather than looking deeper into the patient's emotional health. In addition, medical remedies often carry warnings about side effects and dangerous overdoses. Natural health remedies are much safer and provide a complementary therapy to regular medical care.
