Vegetable Glycerin Soap Is A Gentler Alternative

By Kerri Stout

Consumer preferences and buying trends are important to personal-care product makers. In a market filled with a vast number of choices, buyers have begun to avoid personal cleansing products containing irritating, damaging chemical additives, marking a genuine change in sentiment. Vegetable glycerin soap has become a significant alternative to standard formulas that often result in redness, dryness, and discomfort.

Glycerin is not a new discovery. It has been used for years in hospital settings to help burns heal, to make suppository use more comfortable, and in the manufacture of products such as shampoo, lotion, and other personal-use items. Made from plant oils derived from palm and coconut trees as well as soy, it becomes a natural mixture of fatty acids, and resembles other thick, colorless liquids such as corn syrup. It is sweet, and widely used in food products.

In the world of cosmetics, it is known as a humectant, or substance that attracts and sustains moisture on the outer epidermis. This moisturizing characteristic can be especially desirable for promoting facial-care products, with an emphasis on those ingredients that actually prevent dryness. While some skin cleansers contain humectants derived synthetically, cleansers containing vegetable glycerol are considered more natural, and use fewer additives.

When the external layer of the epidermis is moist and supple, it not only looks better, but also benefits from extended cell life through strengthened outer membranes. Many commercial face soaps actually accomplish the opposite, mainly because they closely resemble detergent, and are made from petroleum-based formulas. A few contain small quantities of lye, requiring added lotions to counteract the resulting dryness.

In its unadulterated form, the substance is considered to be hypoallergenic. The pervasiveness of environmental chemical toxins makes life complicated for people who live with skin allergies, and the same is true for those who suffer from eczema or psoriasis. Part of the daily routine is avoiding common chemicals that can trigger a flareup, including soap. Alcohol-based hand-cleaners are popular, but can be harsh.

Even though glycerin products contain fewer hazards, they are not all fragrance-free, and even small amounts can generate reactions in some individuals. Individual skin sensitivities are unique, and finding the brand that is most comfortable for personal use may require testing several products. While higher glycerol content does not necessarily mean better cleansing, it usually means fewer reactions.

Fewer chemical stabilizers used during manufacturing means that individual bars often fade away more quickly than other products. Storage in warm locations is not recommended due to melting, and soap dishes need adequate drainage. Long-term air exposure has the ability to cause shrinkage due to evaporation. Natural glycerin soaps also do not produce as much lather as traditional, detergent-based products.

Many people have begun making their own product at home. There are Internet links detailing that relatively simple process, including the necessary materials, molds, and instructions on safe production. Those who prefer to buy the completed product can choose between liquid and bar forms, and there are even vegan-certified brands that use no peripheral animal products whatsoever. Properly hydrated skin not only looks better externally, but reflects good health internally.

Arthritis Help and Pain Relief

By Julieanne van Zyl

Arthritis pain relief is something that many individuals are seeking. Distressing millions of individuals globally, arthritis is a incapacitating condition that is essentially a very painful inflammation of the joints. Over one hundred different types of arthritis have been identified. Many types become so severe that the sufferer's entire life style is totally disrupted. Prescription drugs and over the counter drugs are used to provide you with arthritis help. These drugs, however, may have unfavorable reactions or reduce the effectiveness of other medications that you may be taking. If narcotics have been prescribed to help you deal with the pain, then you risk becoming addicted and needing bigger and bigger doses to give you arthritis help.

A growing number of folks are turning to natural remedies for their arthritis. Natural remedies will have fewer side effects and can be just as helpful as the prescription medications.

One of the cheapest yet most helpful ways of dealing arthritis pain relief, is Epsom salt. The reason for this is in the anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties of magnesium which is a basic element of Epsom salts. Magnesium sulphate is readily absorbed through the skin. Add two cups of Epsom salts to a bathtub of hot water. The hotter the water is, the better it works. Lay in the bath for thirty minutes and add hot water as needed to %maintain& the temperature. The anti-inflammatory properties of the Epsom salt together with the heat from the bath will reduce the pain from arthritis. However if pregnant or suffering from heart disease it would be prudent for you to check with your doctor before taking very hot baths.

Another natural arthritis remedy just as helpful as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for reducing arthritis pain, is Glucosamine Sulfate. Glucosamine moreover, does not damage your stomach lining like the NSAIDs can do. Use the liquid form of glucosamine sulfate, because it has a better absorption rate. Don't use glucosamine sulfate that has NaCl or KCL listed in the ingredients. These will be listed as salt and potassium. The two ingredients will reduce the helpful amount of glucosamine you will receive in each dose.

Other natural remedies that have proven to be highly beneficial in providing arthritis help, are Devil's claw, Feverfew and Ginger. Devil's claw has anti-inflammatory properties. The recommended dose is 1,000 milligrams twice a day. Feverfew has been used for centuries as a highly helpful anti-inflammatory. The recommended dose of feverfew is 250 milligrams twice a day. According to one study, Ginger was helpful in providing relief from pain and swelling of arthritis in seventy-five percent of the subjects studied. Many folks drink ginger tea or apply ginger compresses to get arthritis pain relief and reduce swelling.

Vitamins beneficial in reducing arthritis pain and swelling are C, A, B-complex and Vitamin E. These vitamins have been proven to increase collagen production and repair connective tissue. Adding Omega 3 fatty acids can provide arthritis help and reduce swelling. In addition, the outer rind of the mangosteen fruit has anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, a mangosteen juice containing a high content of the outer rind (called pericarp) can reduce inflammation causing the arthritis pain. Mangosteen has no known side effects.

If your option is to use natural remedies to treat your arthritis pain and swelling, make sure you check with your medical practitioner first. He or she can make sure that these natural remedies will not interact with any prescription medication you may be taking, and then you may get arthritis pain relief.

Bach Flower Remedies For Natural Healing

By Frank Terne

Dr. Edward Bach is the creator of the Bach flower remedies, a therapeutic treatment that manages emotions in order to achieve individual wellness. This method that originated from Britain was Dr. Bach's attempt to help patients heal by being a more balanced person emotionally without relying on modern medicine. Initially, he tried with the latter, but could never acquire satisfactory results.

Eventually, Dr. Bach discovered his theory that a person's health and wellness are tied intricately with his or her emotions. With this knowledge, he categorized 38 different emotions that every individual has. These emotions could affect a person depending on how balanced they were, positively or negatively.

The remedies provide a healing method that is as natural as it gets. This source is a mixture of flowers and fauna that Dr. Bach realized could help achieve a balanced emotional state in a living being. Once this balanced state was achieved, the patient would find a great ability to heal or put him or herself in a better position to get better.

The best advantage of relying on Bach's flower remedies is that it is rare for anyone to experience any side effects from its use. Only if one is allergic to alcohol, which is used in minute quantities as a preservative, would the remedies be ineffective. Even though it does not help directly cure any specific medical condition, it puts a person in a perfect state to do so with greater results.

The essences are created directly from flowers. They contain the beneficial energy vibrations from nature that we all need. By mixing them with mineral still water, they are then consumed, while using a dash of alcohol preservative to maintain their shelf life.

The flower remedies have now been shown to heal individuals who suffer from a myriad of conditions. These range from simple headaches to complicated issues like an inability to move their lives forward due to past experiences. It is therefore seen that when brought to a more peaceful emotional state, most individuals are able to arrive in a better health condition.

Bach's natural therapy can also be used to help animals and plants. We know that animals have emotions just like us and thus treatable in the same manner. But not many realize that plants also own energies that are akin to emotional states in humans.

There are so many benefits to using Bach flower essences that an increasing number of doctors are enthusiastic about their qualities. There will be some time before the therapy reaches the mainstream as it slowly reaches out to more people. As modern medicine carries its own risk, natural methods like Dr. Bach's flower remedy might be more favorable for use.

The History of Colon Cleansing

Believe it or not, therapies involving the colon have been around for hundreds of years. Dating as far back as 1500 B.C. and continuing on through the centuries, colon cleansing has been used to treat a range of ailments from fevers to diseases. While the exact methods and theories have varied through the years, the same basic principles still apply. Let's take a look at when colon cleansing first began.

The history of colon cleansing can be traced back to the Egyptian Civilization. As early as 1500 B.C., an Egyptian medical document, the "Ebers Papyrus", describes the process of colon cleansing. Egyptians believed that the root to all illness resided with the rotting food in their colons. Some evidence suggests there were "bowel specialists" in ancient Egypt to assist people with elimination.

The Greek physicians Hippocrates (4th and 5th century B.C.) and later Galen (2nd century A.D.) were advocates for enemas as a treatment for fevers. In 196 A.D., China's great physician, Chang Chung Chin, recommended colon cleansing to improve health. And Angelo Catho, a French physician, used colon cleansing to save King Louis XI's life in 1480. King Louis XIV, some say, had over 2,000 colon cleanses in his lifetime, usually performed prior to making important decisions.

Dr. John H. Kellogg, in the early 1900's, reportedly used colon therapy on forty thousand of his patients. He published a comprehensive approach to colon hydrotherapy for the treatment of several illnesses. In 1917, The Journal of the American Medical Association states that in all but 20 cases, Dr. Kellogg avoided surgery in the treatment of his patients with gastrointestinal disease. Kellogg, along with his brother Will, also went on to manufacture whole grain cereals for the purpose of promoting regular bowel movements.

In the 1920's, 30's, and 40's, colon therapy continued to gain popularity. Colon irrigation machines were used as standard practice in hospitals and medical facilities. But then, over the next 50-plus years, colon cleansing treatments greatly declined as modern medicine emerged and escalated. Orthodox medicine became more the norm, along with treating the symptoms over curing the ailment. Some experts believe that the reason for the current population's increasing ill health is due to the decline in colon cleansing therapy.

The past 10 years have seen a revival in alternative medicine. Many people are once again realizing the benefits of a healthy colon. Much has changed in colon therapy techniques over the centuries, but the fundamental theories behind it have not. New techniques, including herbal, over-the-counter colon cleansers and high-tech, colonic irrigation systems, have made colon therapy safer and relatively easy.

The practice of colon cleansing is here to stay. If you've decided to try it, there are many good colon cleansers on the market today. Before purchasing one, however, be sure to thoroughly evaluate existing colon cleanser reviews to ensure your choice of colon cleanser is the best one for you.

What in The World is Acid and Alkaline Body Chemistry?

Acidic and alkaline body chemistry refer to the pH, or potential hydrogen, balance within the body. If we have the optimal acid/alkaline balance, we have blood chemistry balance, or homeostasis.

This subject can be confusing, but it is an important one to try to understand, so I will do my best to explain it to you in a way that can be easily understood.

Have you ever wondered why certain environments attract different things? A field of flowers attracts beautiful butterflies and bees, while a swamp attracts mosquitoes and other insects. Well that is because one environment is alkaline, while the latter is acidic.

Science has found that organisms that carry disease, such as mosquitos, prefer an acidic environment. It is easiest to think of it this way: acidic attracts disease, while alkaline protects health.

Our body acidity or alkalinity predicts our environment. Just like a swamp or a field of fressh flowers it can either harbor disease or flourish. Although it is debatable, many experts believe that disease cannot live in an alkaline environment, yet it thrives and grows in an acidic environment.

Again, it is debatable, but I do believe that your body functions best when it is in an alkaline state because until two years ago, I was someone who used to be out of shape and overweight. I was not following a healthy natural diet and I was not exercising. I felt awful and got sick all the time.

I got the flu or the common cold six to ten times a year. I was depressed and had little to no energy. Since discovering the difference between alkaline and acid body chemistry I have made an active effort to make my body healthier and more alkaline.

Since then I rarely have gotten sick, I have more energy, and have had more tolerance to exercise. Most importantly I have been able to maintain the proper body weight, which is something I have always battled with.

Well how did I get my body more alkaline? I ate more organic fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I made sure that I cut down on the acidic influences in my diet: red meat, dairy products, pasta sauce, coffee, alcohol, processed foods (fast food), deep fried foods, and chemical pollutants (pesticides, hormones etc.).

If you would like to find out your body's acid/alkaline chemistry go to your local health food store. They should have pH test strips you can buy that test your saliva. They are cheap, easy, accurate, and the roles of the strips allow you to test yourself many times. I test myself once a month or so.

If your body is acidic and you would like to try to make it more alkaline to see if you notice a difference in your overall health, you should maintain a dietary ratio of 75% alkaline to 25% acidic, this is what worked for me. Also exercise, or sweat a lot, this is your body's natural way of getting rid of toxic chemicals and pollutants that can make your body acidic.

It should also be noted that one way the body naturally protects against really high acidic levels is by using calcium as a natural buffer. If your body is highly acidic and you are not getting enough calcium through your diet or supplements your body will naturally pull calcium from your teeth, bones, to buffer the acidity. This is not good because it can make your bones and teeth brittle.

Some people's bodies are naturally more acidic or alkaline than others. You may or may not be able to get away with eating more acidic foods than other people. Always remember that everybody is different and you need to be as educated as you can on YOUR body and what makes YOU feel good and healthy.

Pay attention to how often you get sick in relation to certain foods, or toxins you are putting into your body. Make an active effort to test yourself and put good healthy food and supplements into your body, you will feel healthier.

Just What is Holistic Healing?

Holism is the idea that all the properties of a given system, whether chemical, biological, mental, economic, cannot be quantified by its component parts, but rather, the systems as a whole determines in an important way much the parts behave and interact with each other.

The principle of holism was first accurately summarized by Aristotle when he said, "the whole is greater than the sum if its parts." Holistic healing, therefore, operates in part on the theory that treating the whole body is better than treating any single symptom.

In the 1970s, holism, or holistic healing was becoming known as one way to work with psychosomatic phenomena, and now holistic healers seek to adopt a holistic approach to healing medical issues that go beyond the psychological to the physical.

The approach calls for an in-depth and honest evaluation of the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical elements of a patient, and treats the "whole person" in that context, believing all factors to be related and in keeping with the basic premise of Aristotle's declaration.

Today, there are many different branches of the holistic medicine world. The approaches include chiropractic, homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, naturopathy, and reflexology, to name a few.

Most holistic approaches have little basis in traditionally accepted science, and therefore many practitioners feel the practice is poorly understood. Indeed, much miscommunication is attached as the holistic healers claim to act upon a central "vital force," "life force," or "qi" ("chi"). This claim alone puts the entire approach at odds with traditional science.

Taoism is a particular branch of holism that focuses on nature, species' interaction with each other, and spontaneity. Taoist writings first appear in ancient China around 600 BC. Those writings propose a philosophical detachment, allowing things to take their own natural course without interference. By remaining quiet and receptive, one lives in harmony with natural flow of life, with the Dao, the unnamable eternal Reality.

Any way you look at it, Taoism, and holism in general, in matters of health and healing, address more than the microscopic evaluation of a particular system, but rather how that system is reacting to its surroundings, and how it is affecting those surroundings in turn.

Holistic healing, then, approaches illness in a broader context than traditional medicine. Taoists feel that healing can occur when one comes into harmony with one's surroundings, or when one's surroundings are brought into harmony with the life force of the individual.

Nevertheless, many traditional physicians view it as nothing more than hocus-pocus.

Herbal Remedies and Natural Liver Detoxification Resources

By Codi Heart

Truthfully, I did not enjoy writing this article. I started out as usual sitting myself down comfortably in front of my laptop, an especially deep ashtray on the desk to the left of the computer. I conveniently located my over sized cup of very sugary coffee in close proximity to my headache medication. I did however begin a search on the internet to learn all I could regarding liver detox.

My general knowledge of medical subjects is very limited. Unlike so many others I do not remember to take medications and I never research every aliment that I am diagnosed with. Halfway through my coffee and puffing on my second cigarette, I learned that the two gallstones I have had for a while are actually solidified substances that were in the liquid bile secreted by my liver, probably because it contained too much cholesterol, bile salts or bilirubin. If they are displaced, my average sized gallstones could obstruct the circulation of bile from my gallbladder. These could generate a gallbladder attack accompanied with lots of pain.

The situation above occurs when natural liver detox process is no longer able to filter the toxins that have accumulated as a result of cigarette smoke, environmental pollutants, unhealthy diet and the intake of large quantities of caffeine in combination with painkillers that contain paracetamol. I stopped reading at that point, made a second cup of coffee and decided on the subject of this article.

Herbal detoxification, exercise to help blood circulation flow, and a liver-friendly diet are the ideal elements of detoxifying naturally. Everyone knows about exercise and liver-friendly diets are a bore to write about, but you can read about herbs that are beneficial to the functioning of your liver below. You will find that the herbs are not only easy to use, and affordable but you will not have a hard time locating them.

* The chemical cyranin enhances the liver's manufacture of bile as it fortifies the bile duct, this chemical is found in the leaves of Globe artichokes. Since artichokes can mobilize fat stored in the liver they are used for lowering cholesterol.

* By increasing bile production and flow is how Dandelion stimulates the livers detoxification function. As a chemical that tones and strengthens the liver, it also contains potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and significant amounts of choline. The roots are the most beneficial part of this herb and you can boil them to make a tea.

* A popular herb that most doctors will tell you to use if Milk Thistle because it helps with liver function complications that are brought on by misuse of drugs and alcohol.

* Eating rosemary will help with the functioning of your liver and minimize inflammation that may later cause liver disease because it contains to helpful acids caffeic and rosemarinic. It has been found that Rosemary extract can increase or accelerate the function of liver enzymes, and can flush toxins from the liver.

* Turmeric has a wide range of health-promoting properties, one of which is liver cleansing. It contains an oil curcuminoids, that help reduce build-up of toxins by increasing the livers output of glutathione, a powerful enzyme that helps the liver rid itself of toxins. A peppery root that gives a special flavor and a warm yellow color to rice, beans, vegetables, chicken and fish is called Turmeric. It is a traditional mainstay of herbal therapy that is believed to shrink enlarged hepatic ducts, ducts that carry bile from the liver to the common bile duct leading to the small intestines and it may even be useful in the treatment of serious liver conditions such as hepatitis and cirrhosis.

* Chicory is a well-known coffee substitute. Bile production and liver cleansing are made possible by utilizing the components contained within its flowers, seeds and roots. You will find that in addition to reducing the work that is required on the liver, it also acts as a diuretic and laxative. An easy way to consume this herb is to add fresh chicory leaves to salads or to drink chicory tea or chicory coffee.

Herbs alone cannot help a natural liver detox. It must be combined with a healthy diet and life style, such as avoiding alcohol, drugs, smoking, and exercising regularily. The story will need to end here as I must run off to check the kitchen shelf. I am certain that there is Turmeric and Rosemary in there.

Acidity vs Alkalinity - Balancing Your Body's PH

All of the cells in our body require the proper pH balance to function at an optimal level. If our body is acidic or too alkaline, chemical reactions including enzyme activity, cellular repair, and cellular reproduction are inhibited.

Raymond Francis writes, "On the pH scale, 7 is neutral; 0 to 7 is acidic, and 7 to 14 is alkaline. The normal pH inside a cell is 7.4, which is slightly alkaline. Maintaining normal pH in the fluid inside the cell as well as the other body fluids is crucial for keeping the body systems functioning normally."

While most of the body can still operate, however poorly, outside of the optimum pH zone, blood cannot. Dr. Shillington writes, "Your blood operates between 7.3 and 7.5 on the alkaline side of this pH scale. If it goes out of this range, you're dead!"

Fast foods and processed foods are highly acidic. So how do we survive eating a Big Mac and a Coke? Our bodies pull alkalizing minerals--calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium from soft tissues, organs, glands, and bones to neutralize the acid and return our blood to the proper pH balance.

If we continually eat a diet high in acidic foods, chronic acidosis will result. "Eventually, as time goes by, your body will leech your teeth and bones of their much needed calcium to balance this out-of-whack situation," writes Dr. Shillington.

"This is the 'cause' behind arthritis, bone loss, tooth decay, liver and kidney failure, and a multitude of other diseases too numerous to mention. According to my up-to-date research, every disease has some connection to an acid/alkaline imbalance."

The typical American diet is very high in protein. Most meat eaten is not organic and the animals are not fed their natural foods. Cows' main diet staple is grass, but we proudly hail the "best choice meat" as "grain fed."

Grains are not the natural diet of cows. When they eat grains, their bodies become acidic and they are more likely to become ill. They are then shot full of antibiotics (in addition to hormones) and we eat meat which is more acidic than nature intended.

In addition, our industrial society pollutes water, feeds us chemical laden foods sprayed with poisons, wraps and stores foods in toxic plastic and Styrofoam, and encourages us to eat fast foods and processed foods. Is it any wonder chronic illnesses and devastating disease has reached epidemic proportions?

Though the belief that chronic acidosis is the cause of chronic illness or the basis for much of our disease today is not upheld by mainstream conventional medicine, conventional medicine does agree that acid diets pull calcium from bones and that alkaline diets help prevent osteoporosis, kidney stones, and age-related waste of muscle mass.

When you think about acidity of foods, you may immediately think of citric acid in oranges, lemons, and limes. Citrus fruits are acidic, but they turn alkaline when digested. The same is true for tomatoes. It doesn't matter whether a food is acidic or alkaline.

What matters is how it is chemically metabolized in the body. You may search through books on the subject and through sites on the Internet to find lists ranking foods on the pH scale. Unfortunately, the lists are not comprehensive nor are they in agreement, but they all do say to increase fruits and vegetables.

So how do you use this new information? How can you find out if your body is acidic? You can test your pH using the same test strips you might have used in high school chemistry class or to test the pH in your aquarium. Some recommend testing both saliva and urine.

Raymond Francis recommends measuring your first morning urine before you eat. "This test offers an indicator of your cellular pH and can be used to monitor changes as you work to normalize your pH. First morning urine should be in the range of 6.5 to 7.5.

If readings fall below 6.5, you are too acidic. Occasional readings above 7.5 are normal, but consistent readings above 7.5 are an indication of tissue breakdown, and a pH over 8.0 is a serious matter."

What's the easy way to make sure your body is not too acidic or alkaline? How do you make sure your body has the right amount of omega 3s and omega 6s? How do you make sure your food has just the right amount of vitamins and minerals? How do you decrease the number of toxins you ingest? How do you rid your body of all virtually all disease and illness? Does it seem overwhelming? It's not. It's simple. Eat more raw, fresh, organic foods!

Herbal Remedies For Depression Discussion

When it comes to depression we all have our times we are not feeling our best and are a little bit down. For many people it can be a good idea to take a look at some of the herbal remedies for depression that have been discussed over the ages. These can be of great help for calming the mind and a nice initial step before attempting the use of expensive antidepressant drugs.

It must be understood upfront that anyone experiencing serious depression should seek out a qualified medical doctor to make sure that you're getting the best treatment possible. Herbal solutions can be of great addition to your general health and reducing the symptoms of depression, but working with a professional is always the best route if there are any real concerns of prolonged or strong feelings of depression.

Herbal remedies have been a source of health treatments for thousands of years whether it was through an ancient Chinese method or from our Native American heritage. Just like prescribed medicine they need to be taken in the right dosage to make sure they have the best effect without having any negative side effects. One of the great things about them being natural remedies is that the tendency for a negative reaction is less from the natural substance in something that is manufactured, as long as nothing is taken in too extreme of dosage.

With this in mind let's take a look at some of the most popular herbal remedies for depression.

Kinko biloba has been shown to research to help stimulate blood flow to the brain. This added blood flow can be extremely helpful in elevating a depressed individuals mood. In fact, ginkgo biloba is considered one of the most helpful herbal remedies when it comes to depression.

St. Johns wort is another well researched and often talked about natural supplement. For many it is almost even been considered a sort of wonder drug. Its effect in the treatment of depressed patients has been shown to be quite dramatic but many further studies will be needed until it can have the full seal of approval from the medical field. While it may not work for everyone, St. Johns wort should be considered for anyone who is concerned about their mental health.

Ginseng, especially Siberian ginseng, has been talked about as a wonderful supplement that will improve the brain function by enhancing the stability of the neurotransmitters in your head. Aside from showing benefits and improving abstract thoughts and enhancing the immune system, the effect on depression seems to be that helps the brain and the body adjusts better in times of crisis.

These are a few examples of the various herbal remedies that have been researched and used over thousands of years. Make sure when choosing your herbal remedy for depression that you do not have any allergic reactions to herbs you are taking, which can best be done by starting out with a very low dosage and increasing later on to recommended levels.

What Natural Prostate Supplements Can Do for You

The prostate gland is part of the male reproductive system. It is the size of a walnut and is located below the bladder. The prostate makes seminal fluid which mixes with sperm and other fluids during ejaculation. In addition to pain and frequent urges to urinate, prostate issues can prevent the production of seminal fluid and therefore lead to less enjoyable sexuality. It is very important for men to become aware of the problems that they might have to deal with later in life so that they can try their best to prevent these issues from happening in their lives.

Anyone who has ever suffered the symptoms from an enlarged prostate may have given some thought to prostate supplements for their condition. Prostate supplements can ease the symptoms and help the prostate, but many people these days are concerned about chemicals and synthetic medicines and their side effects which can sometimes be dangerous. Thankfully there are many natural prostate supplements that can improve prostate health.

Many of the pharmaceutical prostate supplements that are available for symptoms of prostate enlargement do help, but there are many effective natural prostate supplements as well. Some of the best prostate supplements are time tested herbal remedies. There are many popular herbs that have been used for years as prostate supplements, including saw palmetto, stinging nettle, rye pollen, and pygeum. There are many plant extracts that are successfully used as prostate supplements such as including rosaminic acid, lycopene, daidzein, sitosterol, and genistein. Prostate supplements in these forms can ease symptoms and fight the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate.

Along with natural prostate supplements, changes in daily behavior can help alleviate prostate issues. Reducing liquid intake in the evening can help reduce the urge to urinate at night time. Also reducing the consumption of alcohol, caffeine and hot foods are of great help in alleviating prostate problems. It is also recommended to never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom, even if the bladder doesnt feel full.

Getting the right amounts of prostate supplements and adapting to behavioral changes may be beneficial in improving prostate health and reducing the irritative symptoms that can go along with this condition. Because there are steps that can be taken in order to try to prevent these health issues, it is smart to pay attention and become aware of what those precautions are. Pure Noni Juice: Why Should You Drink It?

You can find pure noni fruit growing in a variety of countries around the world but the best source is organic and undiluted. Most of the nutritional content stays the same no matter where you get your juice from, which can differ greatly in the taste.

Why Pure Noni Juice?

We are inundated with products that claim to be all natural when in fact they are grown under questionable agricultural practices. This means that the product has less of a nutritional value than it should have. Those manufacturers that produce pure juice maintain that their organically grown fruit is far superior to that of a commercial agriculturalist operation.

Drinking pure noni juice can be a boon to your health, well being and vitality. Much research is being done about the medicinal benefits that can be derived from a diet that includes pure noni juice. It is a well known fact in other countries that drinking noni can enhance your life in a variety of ways and we here in the western world are now able to reap those same benefits.

Where to Find Pure Noni Juice?

The best place to find anything is the internet. You can find a wide variety of dealers and manufacturers that sell all natural noni. If you are internet savvy you will be able to weed out the sites that are just hype and find the best source. When water and sugar are added, it dilutes the potency of noni juice so that is why pure is preferred.

Many Europeans have been drinking pure noni juice and it has finally come to the attention of the United States that adding pure noni products to your life can be more than just a little beneficial. When you add organic noni products to your daily routine you are said to reap a variety of benefits for both your health and your well being.

Though noni fruit is grown in many places, it cannot be grown in many of the developed countries such as the United States except for places like Hawaii. You can find pure noni juice not just on the internet but in many health food stores in your local area.

Isn't it time you lived your life to its fullest potential? Aren't you tired of being tired? Get out and look for organic noni juice so that you can feel more energetic, look better and feel better than you have in a good long while. Those that use pure noni juice on a regular basis would not give it up and would go to any lengths to keep their supply coming. Isn't it about time you begin to add noni juice to your daily routine so that you can be all that you were meant to be?

What is Homeopathic Medicine?

Have you ever heard of homeopathy? You probably have, but have no idea what it really is. Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats an illness or condition with highly diluted concentrations of natural ingredients that mimic the symptoms of the condition being treated. It seems like an odd premise, but in spite of the unusual mechanism behind it, it is a very effective method for treating disease.

How do you cure someone of an illness by giving that person a tiny concentration of something that actually causes the illness? According to proponents of the science, homeopathy not only works, but works better than conventional medicine. They say that somewhere along the line the pharmaceutical industry got involved in medicine, at which point natural remedies were abandoned in favor of chemical formulations.

If you browse through your local pharmacy, you will notice that there are actually quite a few products in the Cold & Flu aisle that are homeopathic. The easiest way to to find out if a product you are interested in is homeopathic is to read the label on the back and take a look at the ingredients. In homeopathy, all of the ingredients are diluted, so each ingredient in a homeopathic product has the letter X or C after it.

So, if one of the ingredients is Zinc 20X, that means the product contains Zinc that has been diluted 20 times. One of the most popular cold medicines on the market, Zicam, is actually a homeopathic remedy that consists of nothing more than homeopathic zinc in a nasal gel. Most people that use Zicam do not even realize that it is a homeopathic product.

There are homeopathic remedies available for almost any condition you can think of. Cold, flu, allergy, even bedwetting; there is a homeopathic remedy available for almost every condition. Homeopathy is universally recognized as being safe because the ingredients are always natural substances diluted many times over.

The big drug companies claim that any relief felt from the application of a homeopathic medicine can be attributed to the placebo effect. And, because the FDA does not require homeopathic products to undergo a clinical trial before being sold to the public, the detractors feel that homeopathy is junk science. So, is homeopathy a bunch of hodgepodge, or does it really work?

In my opinion, it works. There have been several clinical trials done over the years to test the efficacy of homeopathic products. Liddell Laboratories makes a product called Vital HGH which contains homeopathic HGH. Vital HGH is designed to treat the symptoms of aging and/or a rundown condition. In a small clinical trial performed years ago, a group of test subjects who were deficient in human growth hormone, ranging in age from 45 years and up, were given the Vital HGH formulation.

The results speak for themselves. During the five month clinical trial, the levels of HGH in the blood increased in every test subject, and more than doubled the average level of HGH. I personally have used homeopathic remedies to treat my allergies, and not only do they work, but they seem to prevent the symptoms from returning for an extended period of time.

The main reason why big drug manufacturers try to downplay the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines is so they will not have to make them. Most homeopathic products are incredibly cheap to manufacture and the profit margins are extremely small. A prescribed conventional medicine costs a lot more.

If the public began demanding natural, homeopathic remedies for their ailments, drug companies would have to make these kinds of products to stay in business, and then their revenues would tumble and their profits would shrink.

Imagine if Pfizer had to stop manufacturing Viagra, which they sell at $20-$30 per pill, and instead make a homeopathic product that would retail for only $20 for a one month supply. That is why drug companies often spend significant money to debunk claims that homeopathy works, using misinformation tactics to instill a belief in the public that homeopathy is a sham. This simply is not true. Homeopathy works, and is much more affordable.

Conventional medicines are still necessary because sometimes homeopathy does not work for each and every individual. But, next time you go to the pharmacy, take a look at some of the homeopathic brands on the shelf and give them a whirl. For common ailments that are not life threatening, homeopathy is probably a cheaper and more effective alternative.

Holistic Healing and Magnetic Therapy Solutions

Magnetic therapy is part of a very large number of therapeutic offerings. These are sometimes referred to as holistic healing options. That is to say, because magnet therapy has never been accepted by the medical community (primarily because further studies are needed to show if, how and why magnets may help alleviate chronic pain) magnetic therapy will always be looked at as holistic healing.

This does not mean that magnets do not help or will not holistically heal those that suffer from chronic pain. Some studies have shown there may be some benefits to magnetic therapy such as a loss of swelling in some patients as well as pain relief in patients with fibromyalgia, arthritis and other chronic pain issues.

Some magnet pain therapy enthusiasts will use magnets for back problems and will buy magnetic therapy chairs, mattress pads and back support belts. The holistic nature of magnetic therapy means you may find this is exactly what you have been looking for to ease your chronic pain; however the studies are not conclusive so there is really no way to support magnetic therapy in any way beyond holistic healing and alternative medicine.

Holistic is referred to as pertaining to the whole body. This means that if magnet therapy and magnetic therapy solutions are seen as holistic healing remedies, then they are also seen as whole body treatments. Holistic healing is further defined as the treatment of disease by taking into consideration every part of the body to bring the internal environment into balance.

When we look at magnet therapy and holistic healing from this light, we find that pain therapy via magnetic products are seen as helping to bring the body into balance and focusing efforts on the entirety of the body, and not just one small part. Remember too that holistic healing then must also include preventive measures taken before the pain occurs or is likely to occur.

So we can now look at holistic healing as a preventive type of medicine as well as something that attempts to focus on the entire body instead of just one aspect.

For instance, if you injure yourself and use the magnets immediately, this may prevent further pain later down the road. Or if you use a magnetic mattress to sleep on every night, this may in some way increase circulation, prevent swelling or something else altogether that is aiding and helping in your everyday health and mobility. I say this may increase circulation or prevent swelling because further studies are needed to fully understand the benefits of magnet therapy and magnetic therapy solutions.

It is important to point out once again that in no way is magnet therapy proven to "cure" or "heal" in the traditional sense of the word as it is applied in Western medicine. However, it is possible that holistic healing, as it is sometimes called and which we see as an allover body healing with preventive attributes, makes it is possible to say that magnet therapy may heal in a purely holistic sense.

Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide whether magnet therapy is right for them and whether they make it part of their holistic healing process. This is because the use of magnets is seen today as a holistic healing option which may, in conjunction with other pain therapies, help to prevent and alleviate chronic pain or swelling.

To Cure, or not to Cure? Reasons why Osteopaths Differ from GPs

By Andrew Mitchell

We have all been there: we go to the doctor with an aching back, she gives us a diagnosis, and writes out a prescription for some pain killers, along with some medical advice of what we can and cannot do. We take the pills, follow the advice, and the problem goes away. Or does it? Two months later, we pick up a heavy suitcase and injure our back once again - and start the vicious cycle of doctor-pills-advice all over again.

Treating psychical injuries is always an uphill struggle, unless you can find a way to eliminate the problem completely. This is where the role of an osteopath becomes central, since osteopaths don't just treat the symptoms of a problem (as your local GP would), but will look at the entire body take the extra step of finding not only the cause of the ailment, but the cure as well. There are a range of other factors that differentiate an osteopathic doctor from a medical doctor:

1. Osteopaths are specialists in how the body works. Where medical doctors have a general overview of a large number of diseases, osteopaths are specifically trained in the musculoskeletal system. They therefore have a greater understand of how one system within the body influences the other, giving them a diagnostic as well as therapeutic advantage over GPs.

2. Osteopaths also undergo something referred to as Osteopathic Manipulative Training (OMT). This is a special diagnosis technique using one's hands. This technique stimulates the blood to flow to the target areas, serving as a much more natural way of diagnosing a disease.

3. An Osteopath not only uses their hands to diagnose a problem, but also to treat to the predicament. While a medical doctor would prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug to treat the symptoms at face value, an osteopath would work to free the muscle tensions, which not only stimulates circulation, but encourages the body's own forces to eradicate the problem, preventing it from re-emerging in the future.

4. Where doctors deal with the present symptoms of a given problem, osteopaths will look at the persistent history of an illness. If a patient has injured his knee, for instance, a medical doctor would gather a patient's medical history through a means of blood tests, psychical examinations, and perhaps certain laboratory procedures. An osteopath would acquire this same history by questioning the patient about whether he previously experienced stiffness in the knee joints, whether the knee is more painful in a specific position, or whether the pain increases in the patient's most active moments. By getting a patient's history through this approach, osteopaths work to find the cause of the problem, and attempt to cure it at the source.

Osteopathy therefore has many advantages, but do these outweigh the benefits of a visiting a GP? That is up to you: depending on the nature of your injury, you might want to see both. The question you want to ask yourself is whether your ailment is persistent or not, and whether you merely want to treat the immediate symptoms, or cure the source of the problem.

Acai Berry Supplement Review - Are the Claims Real?

By Dawn Z Shillingster

Only until recently, many people had any idea about the benefits of acai berry supplements. Heck, a lot of us still do not even know what acai berries are! Needless to say, we do not know a lot about their particular health benefits either. To be quite honest though, it is quite worth it to get to know about them. It could be especially beneficial to your general health.

For quite some time, only those intimately familiar with the vegetation found in the Amazon rain forest knew about these amazing fruits. They grow wild there. They are deeply purple in color and they are known to contain a number of vital vitamins and antioxidants. It is mind boggling to realize that a potential curative has been growing all this time, and most of us have been completely unaware.

Nowadays, the berries are harvested by local farmers. The effort is definitely worth it. It is not just that acai berries are extremely beneficial in a number of different ways. They have the added benefit of keeping all of their nutritional value even when the pulp os frozen. That way they can even be shipped all over the world as a foodstuff. Then, too, supplements can still be made of their vitamins.

The acai berry is particularly known for helping your heart to stay healthy. This is primarily because the berries contain anthocyanins. These are special compounds. You have probably encountered them before. They are also located in red wine. They are why doctors recommend a glass of wine a day. However, the berries contain even higher concentrations of this important compound. Plus they are clearly healthier than drinking a whole lot of red wine instead!

Acai berries and their supplements are extremely rich in protein and dietary fiber as well. Not only that, but they have a lot of the important fatty acids, omega-6 and omega-9, too. These help the heart too, but they have the added benefit of helping the cardiovascular system in addition. It is even believed that acai berries can benefit high cholesterol levels.

Finally, they are also known for their anti aging properties. There is a strong suggestion that they can help to slow down the aging process. Ask any health food nut, they no doubt know the advantages of these amazing berries.

A Choice Between Swedish And Ayurvedic Massage Methods?

By GH Williams

Various influences in massage therapy have cropped up leading to the creation of various methods that differ in techniques but offer the same health benefits. The Swedish and Ayurvedic massage both have different origins and use contrasting styles but contribute a lot to achieve a healthy and relaxed body.

With all the different varieties of massage therapy programs available today, it has become really difficult for individuals to select which one of them.

The Swedish Massage, which is frequently called the classic or traditional massage. This is the most common massage therapy method and it is what most individuals ordinarily favour. The long and flowing strokes characterize this method, and it is ideal for loosening muscles, improving joint flexibility and aiding in better circulation.

The first stroke is known as effleurage, this involves a long gliding stroke from the neck down to the base of the spine or from the shoulder down to the fingertips. It is likewise done on the limbs with all strokes directed toward the heart to aid blood and lymphatic flow. A therapist would ordinarily use there whole hand or a thumb pad to do this.

Next is petrissage that consists of the gentle lifting of muscles up and away from the bones, then rolling and squeezing them, with a gentle pressure. It generally involves rolling, squeezing, or pressing the muscles to enhance deeper circulation. It increases circulation through eliminating toxins from muscle and nerve tissue.

The third technique friction, is the most forceful one and uses deep circular movements using fingertips. it is applied near bony areas and joints, it relaxes the muscle fiber which in turn enhances flexibility in muscles and joints.

After friction, another technique called tapotement is done. Tapotement is a series of quick forceful movements made by striking or tapping the muscles with the hand. It can be applied with a closed fist, fingertips and the edge of the hand. It releases tension and relieves muscle cramps.

Lastly, the therapist uses vibration or shaking that entails the pressing of hands on the back or limbs and shaking in a rapid motion for a few moments. It improves circulation and muscle contraction and is advantageous to individuals with low-back pain.

On the other hand, Ayurvedic massage originated from India and its aim is to produce harmony and balance within the individual and it aids in the removal of toxins and rejuvenation of the body. It was not practiced publicly until Indian practitioners decided to roam around and give muscle, joint and back massages

Ayurvedic massage is based on a particular system that includes the knowledge of Ayurvedic and Greek systems of medicine which is focused on Ayurvedic doshas and marmas or pressure points. Muslim massage techniques were also adapted in this system.

Ayurvedic massage techniques applies specific oils that suit your dosha and depends on your being. Another one is the Abhyanga-Garshana which comprises of skin brushing followed by an oil massage, Udwarthanam which is a slimming massage that uses herbal powders and the Ayurvedic foot massage which is a deep massage where the therapist uses his feet.

Now with sufficient knowledge on both Swedish and Ayurvedic massage, a person has of course the privilege to choose among the two which best suits his/her style of relaxation. But with both massages having specific techniques, the selecting part can be a little tricky though.

Acid Reflux: Alternative and Complementary medications.

By Frank Robson

While some leading medications work for everyone, they actually make the Acid Reflux worse after you stop taking them. In particular, when a patient takes the medications classed as Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI), they inhibit the production of acid. When these medications are discontinued, it is observed that the body responds and bounces back with more acid secretion. This is called "rebound hypersecretion," It is, thus, often advisable for people taking PPI's to avoid sudden stoppage of medication

There are some know herbs for heartburn remedies. A tea made from caraway seeds, coriander, chamomile, anise, fennel and angelica, may be taken after a meal to relieve symptoms. Teas made from peppermint and spearmint leaves are contraindicated in allopathy. Peppermint and caraway seed oils taken in capsule form for four weeks may also be beneficial.

Many experts depend on roots and herbs. In Ayurveda, the ancient Hindu art of medicine and prolonging life, ginger root is commonly used. Consuming up to 500 mgs per day may actually cause you to have fewer occurrences of acid reflux.

Symptoms may also be reduced be adding extra fiber to your diet. The acid from food is easily digested by fiber. The extra fiber has the added bonus of keeping you body regular. If you have a problem adding raw foods you have the option of taking your fiber in a pill form or as a water-soluble powder.

Stop smoking. Nicotine causes a relaxation of the esophageal sphincter, allowing fluids to swish around freely. Sometimes smoking and stress are related, and both need to be reduced, as both affect your digestion.

Citrus fruit, potatoes, Buffalo wings, ground beef, raw onions, chicken nuggets, cheese, ice cream, spaghetti, liquor and wine, coffee and tea and some salad dressings are all foods that you should avoid.

Licorice (sold in health food stores), Meadowsweet (an antacid and anti-inflammatory that helps protect the digestive tract), Papain (helps to make the digestion of food more efficient), Chamomile (aids in digestion) and marshmallow (combined with chamomile works as an anti-inflammatory) have all been used with success as natural alternatives.

Acid reflux can be treated alternatively by making some simple lifestyle changes such as maintaining a good diet and controlling your weight. Managing your stress will also be beneficial in handling this problem.
