The Benefits Of Anti Inflammatory Foods

By Annabelle Holman

Inflammation can be caused by things you eat. If your diet is based on inflammatory food, it will increase your chances for cardiovascular diseases and other health problems. You can even feel pain more intensively, especially pain related to arthritis, if your diet isn't properly balanced. Anti inflammatory foods have numerous positive effects on your health as well as on your weight.

All types of junk food, high fat meat, highly processed food, trans fats, sugar and refined flour have inflammatory effect on your organism. Although most things you consume have some effect on your blood sugar level and increase it, good stuff will increase it slowly, and junk food will increase it sharply, causing all kinds of harmful processes in your body.

Anti inflammatory food may reduce inflammation, if eaten regularly. Typical foods on the anti-inflammatory diet are all fruits and vegetables, fish and seafood, non-fat and low fat milk and yogurt, soy, almonds, nuts and other food rich in minerals, vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids and healthy mono-saturated fats. When it comes to vegetables, some say you should avoid so called nightshade vegetables, for example tomato, potato and eggplant.

Fruits are especially valuable. Brightly colored fruits and berries are rich with anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants fight free radicals and help you stay healthy and young, and protect your skin and beauty as well. Mono-saturated fats contained in avocado, for example, are also highly valuable, especially if you need additional source of plant-based proteins. Low fat meat is also allowed.

Healthy fats contained in nuts, avocado, seeds, olive and canola oil and some other foods are essential for preserving physical and psychical health. Your brain needs them to be able to work. Low-fat meat, fish and seafood are great sources of these healthy fats and Omega-3 amino acids. Calculate our calorie intake, but include these valuable foods in your diet.

Most fish and seafood can be used as very good anti-inflammatory protein sources. Tuna, salmon and sardines should be on your menu at least once a week. Use fresh fish and prepare it yourself. Processed and canned food has inflammatory effect, and although you don't have to avoid it completely, highly processed and fried food is always a health hazard.

You may drink different herbal teas, mineral or spring water or even tap water, but you need to avoid sodas and similar beverages. They contain high levels of sugar, and processed sugar is your enemy. If you need something sweet in your beverages, use stevia instead. Drink vegetable and fruit juices, without added sugar. Choose dark green and brightly colored fruits, and be careful with calorie rich fruits such as banana.

Avoid all processed food, especially snacks, white bread and sweets. Anything that contains sugar, too much salt and white flour is bad for you. Choose legumes, whole grains, seeds, walnuts and other healthy food. You can safely consume herbal teas and even coffee. Coffee seems to have very nice effect on your organism, when it is consumed in reasonable quantities.

Basics Regarding Natural Anti Inflammatory Foods

By Kerri Stout

Human bodies are complex and regularly conduct a variety of processes. In response to injury or attack, the body's natural reaction is inflammation. This is typically regarded as a normal and health event. However, whole-body inflammation can be troublesome. This refers to an imperceptible, chronic, low-level condition that can manifest in negative ways. Many with inflammatory problems adopt diets consisting of natural anti inflammatory foods.

There are plenty of food items that can be used to naturally reduce inflammation in the body. Likewise, there are many things to avoid when on a mission to reduce inflammation, such as foods with high saturated fat and sugar content. Plenty of resources have information on this topic and can be used by those looking to naturally fix this problem.

Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for management of this problem. These are present in salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna and other fatty fish. For top results, people should eat this a few times per week and prepare it in a healthy way. People who don't like the taste of fish might opt for fish oil supplements, which may be just as effective. Those who have a diet already high in omega-6 fatty acids may find that taking fish oil supplements is not effective and only increases the inflammation.

Whole grains are also useful for this purpose. Rice, cereal, pasta and white bread are known to increase the problem. However, whole grains have different components that make them helpful, such as fiber. The fiber levels are believed to lower c-reactive protein, which is the indicator of inflammation in the blood. Dark leafy greens are also powerful. These include a lot of vitamin E, which helps prevent cytokines. Cruciferous veggies, collard greens, spinach and broccoli are some examples of things that include plenty of minerals and vitamins that can help with inflammation and go well in many recipes.

Many people use nuts as an anti-inflammatory. These are high in vitamin E, calcium and fiber. Not only can they reduce problems of inflammation, they can fix issues caused by increased and prolonged inflammation. There have been studies done that suggest soy is good for this purpose. People are recommended to consume minimally processed soy that does not include additives and has not been processed so much that it loses its benefits.

Dairy is largely recognized as a trigger for inflammation, but low-fit dairy is considered helpful in fighting this. Peppers are another food choice. These, as well as another nightshade vegetable tomatoes can be of benefit to some people with this problem. Tomatoes have a high level of lycopene, which is good for lung inflammation.

Beets are known for being high in antioxidants. This makes them ideal for fighting against various diseases and cancers. This food also includes fiber, betalains and vitamin C. Ginger and turmeric are spices with known anti-inflammatory benefits.

Turmeric contains NF-kappa B. This protein is known for regulating the immune system. Onions and garlic are powerful because they can boost the immune system. Other foods that can be beneficial for this purpose: berries, dark cherries and olive oil.

Omega 3 Fish Oil vs. Top Three Drugs

By Michael Byrd

Are you aware omega 3 fish oil is just as effective, a lot safer and certainly a lot less expensive than antidepressants, high blood pressure drugs and anti-inflammatory arthritis and headache pain relievers?

Yet these three top selling classes of drugs outsell fish oil by more than 100 to one?

And, that's despite the fact that, like all pharmaceuticals, these three types of drugs have never cured a single person of depression, hypertension, arthritis or headaches. At best, they only suppress symptoms in a small percentage of people who take them.

Not only are they not really particularly effective, they may have serious side effects that may do more harm than good. Often patients are required to take another controversial drug to counteract the harmful effect of the first. Some of them, such as Vioxx, have even been taken off the market because they cause heart attacks and strokes.

And they have serious side effects that may do more harm than good. They often require patients to take yet another questionable drug to counteract the damaging effect of the first. Some of these drugs, such as Vioxx, were even taken off the market because they were found to cause heart attacks and strokes.

When you get right down to it, almost all bad health is caused by poor lifestyle choices. Lousy diet, smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of exercise and excess weight gain. It has nothing to do with a deficiency of drugs.

Are you aware there are other safer, more natural ways to both prevent and relieve depression, high blood pressure and inflammatory pain without resorting to prescription drugs? And one of the best alternatives is to eat fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, herring or tuna at least two or three times a week and take a good quality daily fish oil supplement.

Let's take a look at the evidence.

People with depression have significantly lower total omega 3 levels (Journal of Affective Disorders, Vol. 26, No. 38, 35-46). Omega 3 supplements showed significant benefits in just three weeks of treatment (American Journal of Psychiatry, Vol. 159:477-479). Omega 3 fatty acids were also found to be effective treatments for both bipolar disorder (Archives of General Psychiatry, Vol. 56 No. 5) and borderline personality disorder patients (American Journal of Psychiatry, Vol. 160:167-169).

Fish oil has also been shown to be highly effective at lowering blood pressure. That's one major reason why the American Heart Association (AHA) and the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommend everyone eat cold water, fatty fish at least a couple of times a week.

The AHA and NIH also recommend people with heart disease symptoms (for example, high blood pressure) take daily fish oil supplements providing at least one gram of combined omega 3 DHA and EPA fatty acids.

And as far as arthritis and headache inflammatory pain relief is concerned, fish oil omega 3 has been shown to be nature's safest, most potent and effective alternative to over the counter NSAIDs such as Advil, Motrin, Nuprin and Aleve (Arthritis and Rheumatism, Vol. 38: 1107-14.) As a matter of fact, in many scientific studies, patients were able to significantly reduce and even completely eliminate prescribed pain medications after starting a fish oil omega 3 treatment program.

In fact, in many of the scientific studies reviewed, patients were able to greatly reduce and even totally eliminate prescribed pain medications after starting an omega 3 fish oil treatment program.

And, if you're concerned about toxins in fish oil, the Harvard University School of Public Health says you can sit back, relax and enjoy your broiled salmon dinner. After reviewing all the relative studies, they recently confirmed fish oil benefits far outweigh the threat of mercury or other toxins in fish by as much as 500 to one. (Journal of the American Medical Association 2006, Vol. 296: 1885-99)

You don't need to look to hard to find high quality fish oil supplements that are safe and fully guaranteed to be 100% pure and toxic free. (www.omega-3.us).

Therefore, prior to starting a drug program or even if you are already on one consider eating more dish and taking omega 3 fish oil supplements instead. Who knows? You just may get better or equal results without the dangerous side effects and save a bundle of money at the same time. Now that sounds like a winning combination to me, don't you think?

Why Omega 3 Is essential?

By Dave Kool

Omega 3 fatty acids are a family of unsaturated fatty acids that our body can't make. Omega 3 is necessary for brain functioning and also for development and progress of the body. As our body can't produce it so we require food to develop these fatty acids. Fish like salmon and halibut are famous to be the best sources for omega 3 fatty acids. Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) and Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA) are known to be three main omega 3 fatty acids. Clinical studies suggest that omega 3 fatty acids are very helpful to treat many medical illnesses. It is useful for the prevention of heart disease and numerous other problems which add to heart diseases. It is also beneficial for people who are suffering from prostrate, breast and colon cancer. Some of the benefits and uses of omega 3 include;

High Cholesterol Control

ALA is available in walnuts and fatty fish which are good to reduce cholesterol level in the body. It is also helpful to decrease the trigycerides level in the body.

Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention

High blood pressure and high cholesterol are two very lethal ailments which can be restricted by using substances of DHA and EPA; fish oil is the greatest source of these substances. DHA and EPA are also supportive to treat atherosclerosis. These substances suppress the development of plague and blood clots thus avoid heart disease and stroke. Doctors suggest taking fish in your food two times in a week; it is necessary for every person and reduces risk factor of stroke by half.

High Blood Pressure Control

Research makes it obvious that omega 3 fatty acids are excellent to lower blood pressure to great level. It is also helpful for individuals with hypertension. There is one exemption not to use mercury rich food as it can raise blood pressure.

Avoiding Rheumatoid arthritis

Softness in the joints and morning stiffness are medical conditions which can be shunned by using omega 3 fatty acids. Research illustrates that omega 3 is also supportive for reducing soreness.

Help in Osteoporosis

EPA is omega 3 fatty acid that is rich in calcium. It adds calcium in the bones and improves calcium level in the body and gives our bones a great strength. Those people who take EPA in their routine diet do not come across bone density harms.

Avoiding Depression

Nerve cell membranes help for nerve communication. These are vital for any human being for his/her cerebral physical condition and to stay attentive. Luckily, omega 3 fatty acids contain imperative mechanism for these membranes. Still we require taking these fatty acids in good quantity. If we are failed there is a strong likelihood to encounter depression.

All these fatty acids play an essential role for suitable functioning of our body. It establishes and maintains our health by escalating energy, routine and stamina. The fatty acids are favorable for strengthening our resistant system. We are more likely to be saved from cardiovascular disease. Consistent use of these fatty acids can aid in weight reduction. Our brain can perform better and it improves functions like brainpower, behavior and vision. These fatty acids are good for wounded people as it speeds up recovery and healing process. It improves our digestive system. In short, these fatty acids are must for each person to stay fit and healthy.

What Is Phytessence Wakame? Why Is It Great For Your Skin?

By Peter Albertonach

Ever heard of Phytessence Wakame? If you're interested in good skin care you should have. No, I'm wrong. If you're interested in the BEST skin care products you should be familiar with Phytessence Wakame. Here's why.

This strange sounding substance (try saying Phytessence Wakame 5 times fast) is derived from kelp. It's a seaweed, or sea algae to be specific, that is found around Japan. It is a large part of the traditional Japanese diet, being eaten dried and fresh.

And Japanese women are well known for having the best skin right into old age. And the Japanese know that Phytessence Wakame is a large part of this, so it's highly prized.

So why is Phytessence Wakame so good for the skin? What does it have that makes it perhaps one of the most important modern ingredients for the best skin care products?

Phytessence Wakame is full of all sorts of wonderful substances that are extremely good for your skin health. Most of the B group vitamins are there, which help so sooth skin inflammation. It is very rich in calcium having around 15 times more calcium than milk and it is high in many important vitamins and minerals.

And it is high in iron and potassium. All these nutrients help keep the skin hydrated. Keeping the moisture balance of the skin high aids skin health and also helps keep the skin younger looking.

But equally important, if not more so, is the ability of Phytessence Wakame to perform a particular function for us that is of enormous benefit to our overall skin health. It helps inhibit the effects of hyaluronidase.

What in the world is hyaluronidase I hear you say? (I have very good hearing.)

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme in your skin. It breaks down hyaluronic acid, and hyaluronic acid is important for good skin health. It combines with collagen and elastin to help the skin maintain it's elasticity and youthfulness.

So your skin need hyaluronic acid. And if hyaluronidase breaks it down you don't want too much hyaluronidase. And if Phytessence Wakame helps inhibit the effects of hyaluronidase that has to be good for your skin.

You won't find much Phytessence Wakame in modern well known brands of skin care products, most of which don't work very well anyway. You need to look a little harder to find it, it's only in the best skin care products money can buy. And at a price that is pretty competitive to what you're probably paying for your skin care products right now.

Why? It's too expensive for the big brands, but the best skin care products are made by a small company that doesn't spend up big on TV advertising, so can afford to spend up big on product quality.

Understanding The Benefits Of Catnip Tea

By Dr. Caroline Marrison

There is a wide belief that Catnip Tea can be highly health beneficial. It can either be bought as fresh catnip which is said to be more potent or packaged. The applications of Catnip Tea range from fever reduction over anti-inflammatory or antiseptic. Some have even used it as a pain-reliever. Catnip Tea basically is a relaxant which is why it is often used before going to bed. While it is usually used as a tea it can also be supplied in leaves that can be chewed.

Most people know Catnip Tea for its relaxing sedative properties. Parents like to mix the tea with a few bits of honey to make it taste better for their children. It has the effect to calm restless children and to treat colic as well. Adults like it for its effect on the nervous system which relaxes the body and promotes restful sleep.

There is a lot of other uses for catnip like relieving constipation, stimulating perspiration and acting as a diuretic. It is however to be avoided by pregnant women because it regulates menstruation and relieves cramps.

Catnip tea can be used to reduce fever but it can also be used to increase perspiration without raising temperature to treat the flue, colds, chicken pox or scarlet fever. That is not all however as it can also relieve stomach ache, gas, acid indigestion, upset stomach and control diarrhea.

The tea water of catnip tea can also be gargled or inhaled instead of drunk. Gargling catnip tea can treat sore throats or cough while inhaling it can be helpful to ease the effects of a cold and other respiratory infections. Lastly it can also relax the spasms of asthma.

The antiseptic and antioxidant properties of catnip tea are said to reduce inflammation and to help heal infected gum because of this effects. It is best used as a mouthwash to relieve the toothache. It is also possible to saturate cotton balls with the tea and apply the balls directly to the gum.

Catnip leaves are rich in tannin and vitamins C and E, antioxidants which help the body to heal and repair itself. The tea is used topically on the skin to reduce inflammation and promote healing of burns and scalds, on cuts and abrasions to stop bleeding and disinfect the wound, and to relieve the sting and itching of insect bites. Caralluma Fimbriata: The Next Hoodia?

By Barry Crewse

Caralluma Fimbriata. Almost no one has even heard of it and those who have may be asking just what the heck it is. The first thought for most people is just another fad diet gimmick. But is it? Could it be pure gold in the world of weight loss? Let's find out.

Caralluma belongs to the cactus family and is known as a succulent. It grows wild in much of India and as far north as Afghanistan and the surrounding areas.

For literally hundreds of years it has been eaten by the locals of the region as a vegetable and can be eaten both raw and cooked. The green follicles of the plant are usually boiled, salted and eaten. It is also very popular there in making a variety of different chuntney's and pickles.

The locals who eat this vegetable found it contained certain properties that acted like a natural appetite and diet suppressant while at the same time boosting their energy level and quenching their thirst. For this reason Caralluma has always been used as a portable hunting food and also became known locally as a "famine food" and used extensively in the drier, more arid regions of India.

Of course, modern science has now caught up with all the benefits of Caralluma Fimbriata and the new arrival of this succulent cactus is just now becoming very popular for not only being able to suppress your appetite and boost your endurance but it also appears to lower blood sugar.

Clinical researchers are discovering that the extracts of Caralluma actually act on the hunger centers within the brain reducing the feeling of being hungry. Further more, these studies have found that appetite suppression takes place without any known disturbances in the natural function of the neurotransmitters within the brain itself. This is surprisingly different than most appetite suppressants on the market today.

Clinical studies are also finding that one main extract of Caralluma, pregnane glycoside, is not only very effective in controlling appetite, obesity and weight gain but also is appearing as a major player in lowering your BMI, body fat, blood glucose levels and blood pressure as well. Reductions in hip and waste circumferences were noted as well.

The same studies have also concluded that there appears to be improvement in not only memory function, hearing and capillary health but also notable enhancement of the HDL/LDL blood ratio's as well as controlling joint inflammation and others.

What Caralluma Fimbriata is not is that it is not artificial and is completely natural. There are no chemicals or preservatives needed with this supplement which can interfere with your body's natural diet processes.

There have never been any recorded instance of adverse reaction or toxicity in the extensive studies undertaken to determine it's safety in human consumption. The fact that it has been eaten for centuries should be proof for certain of it's benefits and long term positive effects on the human body.

Caralluma is just now coming onto center stage of the dieting world and I am sure you will be hearing much more about this future giant. Not only do I expect it to overtake Hoodia, which appears to be less effective and more expensive but also most other weight supplements which seems to be only minimally effective.

Gout Medicine That Works - 3 Medicinal Remedies To Reduce Pain

By Sable Woods

While natural gout remedies are an increasingly popular option today, most people still tend to seek gout medicine first to try and rid themselves of inflamed and swollen joints. Medications recommended and prescribed by doctors and other medical specialists are still the main choice to cure ailments, and gout patients follow the same trend. There are several medications designed to lower excess levels of uric acid in your body. In this article, you'll discover 3 gout medications available to you.

Two of the most common kinds of gout medicine you'll encounter are NSAIDs and corticosteroids. They help in lessening the inflammation in the distressed joint. The NSAIDs are taken orally and in high dosage. This will also help in hampering the presence and proliferation of prostaglandin, a substance that contributes to the feeling of severe pain during a gout attack.

If NSAIDs fail, then you could take corticosteroids instead. These also give immediate pain relief through a direct injection into the swollen joint. With this method of injection, the medication can specifically target the afflicted area.

However, one of the negative aspects of this medication is the fact that it cannot be taken on a daily basis or during repetitive attacks. Frequent use of this medication will only weaken your bone cartilage and damage the joints.

If there are instances where these two medications aren't effective, you can turn to a drug called colchicines that can be used for the first 12 hours of the attack. This differs from the other two medications since this can be taken once every hour. This kind of gout medicine has the following side effects: diarrhea, unsettled stomach, and abdominal cramps. Colchicines are considered to be the oldest cure to gout. This has been around for centuries, offering the same relief with that of the other medications.

Gout medicine, like most medications, definitely has its share of side effects. Thus, it is important that you take some time to carefully consider your options. Seeking help from professionals, specialists, and even other gout sufferers with resources will play a salient role in relieving your gout attacks.

Understanding Migraine Headaches

By Christian Goodman

Your head is not really hurting when you feel that you have a headache. Did you know that brain tissues and skull bones don't have the nerve fibers that are sensitive to pain and therefore can't generate the sensation of pain? Then why does your head hurt when you have a migraine?

Migraine headaches have something to do with the blood vessels, that is why they are called vascular headaches. When you are experiencing migraine, your temporal artery is enlarged, which is located just under the skin at your temple. When this happens, it makes the tiny nerve fibers twisted around it to release chemicals.

The chemicals released cause pain, inflammation, and further enlargement of the temporal artery. The greater the swelling, the worse your pain becomes. So why does this artery enlarge to the point of causing severe pain?

The answer may lie in another naturally occurring chemical in the body. Serotonin is one of two major neurotransmitters in the brain that control blood vessel size, among other things. (Norepinephrine is the other one.) Studies done before a migraine show an abnormally high level of serotonin. During the migraine the serotonin level drops to an unusually low level.

While the actual cause of migraines remains a mystery, researchers are looking at a genetic predisposition, since migraine sufferers tend to run in families. They're hoping to find a definitive answer in the near future.

The impact of this unbearable headache is not only felt by the migraine sufferers, but business establishments as well. Studies have shown than around 150 million workdays are lost each year because of migraine headaches. This is equivalent to around $5-7 billion dollars.

The missed work and productivity that's lost from migraines is not just the problem of those who must endure the headaches, it's becoming a significant burden to the general public, through no fault of those living with the constant threat of suffering. Migraine headaches affect 28 million people in this country, more often females, although men suffer them too.

Migraines are often times under diagnosed and often untreated, that is why it becomes persistent. Doctors miss the diagnosis of migraine headaches in more than half the people who have them. Treatments prescribed are often not effective.

One reason why treatments are not effective is that most doctors prescribe pills for the headache. The problem with pills is that migraines usually stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, the one that controls the 'fight or flight' mechanisms in the body.

When the sympathetic nervous system is activated, it postpones the emptying of stomach contents into the small intestine, preventing any absorption into your system. So instead of getting broken down and absorbed, the pills just sit in your stomach.

There is another solution though. The Migraine and Headache Relief program is a simple to use program that's given thousands of migraine sufferers amazing results. It doesn't require the body to be able to absorb or process anything during the stressful time of a migraine attack.

The Migraine and Headache Relief Program only entails several simple to do exercises and only needs a few minutes a day to do. It is effective in reducing and in many cases eliminating the debilitating effects of migraine. Reclaim your life, use the program!

Getting Gout Relief - 4 Suggestions For Instant Gout Pain Relief

By Sable Woods

As one of the oldest and most excruciating conditions, gout can certainly put a hamper on the fun in your life. While searching for gout relief ideas, people often discover that the simple ideas are often the most effective. Here are just a handful of ideas to remember the next time you get attacked by gout pain:

- Get instant gout relief with naproxen or ibuprofen.

When suffering from gout in the beginning, the attack will last for about a week if left untreated. One of the ways you can get gout relief from the pain is by taking an ibuprofen pain reliever, like Motrin or Advil (in case you didn't know, ibuprofen will be listed on the bottle as the active ingredient). These types of pain relievers don't just help ease the pain; they also help fight inflammation too.

Also try naproxen drugs like Aleve. However, you'll want to avoid taking aspirin at all, because it'll likely prolong or cause more pain by stopping the elimination out of the body of the uric acid causing the pain in the first place.

- You can try wrapping your joint in ice.

If it's not too painful for you to touch the affected joint, you can numb the pain by placing ice wrapped in a towel against it for a few minutes (if necessary, repeat this). This will not only give you gout pain relief temporarily but will also help reduce the swelling. Keep a cold compress in your freezer ready to use to get immediate relief during any future attacks.

- Soothe your joints with warmth instead.

Some gout victims have said that when they warm the affected joints it helps to relieve the pain and get to sleep. If you want to try this, wrap a warm towel around the affected area.

- Water is the simplest home remedy.

Six to eight glasses a day will help your dilute the uric acid and allow the kidneys to eliminate excess amounts through urine. Alternatively, you can drink fruit juices or herbal tea for gout relief, if the thought of drinking all of that water isn't pleasing to you. But try to get more actual water intake per day than you're currently getting.

Cherries, Cherry Juice and Gout - Reduce Your Risk Naturally

By Sable Woods

What's the connection between cherries, cherry juice and gout? Why are cherries and cherry juice so good at relieving gout pain?

Cherries and their juice equivalent have something called anthocyanins, which is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps the body reduce joint and body tissue swelling. Anthocyanins, which are most plentiful in cherries, are a type of flavonoid that's recognized as the best in helping prevent possibilities of a gout attack.

When a gout attack occurs, it damages connective tissues and causes ruptures over other surrounding tissues. Anthocyanins prohibit defective enzymes from replicating themselves numerous times. The flavonoid acts as a shield and defensive agent and helps block the release of any oxidants while inflammation and swelling continues to happen. It then helps renew the damaged tissue and rebuild any lost minerals.

Anthocyanins in cherries and cherry juice also help in lessening the disturbing and infuriating pain produced by gout. Medical professionals confirm that consumption of cherries (fresh or dried) or cherry juice on a daily basis will provide relief and greater tendency of lowering the uric acid levels in the body. Whichever way you take your cherries, the outcome will help reduce the risk of gout attacks.

According to research, gout victims find relief with cherries when medications fail them. They are a great alternative source of inflammation and side effect prevention. Along with a proper diet, taking cherry juice or eating cherries every day is a great factor in reducing major gout issues.

Support Normal Prostaglandin Production With CLA

An imbalance of hormones in the body can cause a host of problems. Prostaglandin is a fatty acid that takes on the characteristics of a hormone. This fluid is isolated from the male prostate. In women, it is known for its pain relieving effect on the uterus and is often used during labor and delivery to calm contractions and reduce cramping.

Prostaglandin soothes muscle contractions, reduces pain, reduces inflammation and controls hormones. When it isn't functioning properly, however, you will likely experience more pain and discomfort. CLA is one supplement that can help support natural prostaglandin production.

Conjugated Linolic Acid (CLA)

CLA is sometimes suggested for overweight and obese people for weight loss. It is a trans fat that is said to reduce belly fat. It is a popular dietary supplement. CLA is a designer fat in some ways. It acts as a good fat in the body, much like olive oil and similar products that are healthy for you. It is a lipid that is structured in a way that promotes health and improves prostaglandin production.

CLA helps to build muscle, burn fat, increase metabolism and fight cancer. It acts as an anti-inflammatory, lowers cholesterol and enhances the immune system to fight off germs and diseases. It also acts as a natural fatty acid. It can be found in your diet in beef and dairy products. The omega 6 fatty acid in CLA offers a lubricant for the body. It smoothes body functions and gets things moving again.

The beauty of taking a CLA capsule is that it provides you with the fatty acids your body needs without the guilt of eating the extra calorie-laden foods. You can change your composition of fat and muscle while eating less food and without drastically changing your lifestyle.

Most experts agree that CLA is safe for human consumption and are reasonably certain of the positive benefits it can offer. However, there is inconclusive data from research studies that have been conducted thus far. Further testing in humans must be done to determine the effectiveness of CLA and the possible side effects it may bring.

Studies on Prostaglandin Production and CLA

According to Mark Cook and his team of researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, CLA supplements work to naturally regulate COX-2 proteins.

Studies on animals have recently shown that CLA can control bone loss by allowing better calcium absorption. This is made possible by lowering prostaglandin levels in bone tissue. Further studies on humans and prostaglandin need to occur before there is any concrete evidence.

Research does suggest some side effects from consuming synthetic CLA. It can cause lowered good cholesterol, higher glucose levels and insulin resistance. Though studies on animals have shown that eating foods high in CLA rather than taking a supplement is safer, it would not be practical for people to eat that much meat and cheese.

There is not enough evidence to prove that CLA can support normal prostaglandin production. CLA is deemed safe as a supplement for now, but experts caution users not to exceed 1000 milligrams of CLA per day just as a precaution. Too much of a good thing can be problematic, as well.

Essential Fatty Acid Facts Everyone Needs to Know

There have been thousands of studies that reveal the importance of having essential fats in our diets. A lot of people think "FAT" oh no! Please let me explain.

I personally had the extreme anguish of watching my daughter go through 4 years of an eating disorder where at 70 lbs and 14 years of age, she was tormented by the thought of fats. It's much too long of a story to delve into here but the end of the story is that she has fully recovered, has been at her goal weight and above for over a year now.

During this time I learned that fats make up over 30% of our brain. That without fats we positively cannot live. Ok, so in western industrialized nations, we have overdone it a bit. We have, for the last 80 years, used the wrong kinds of fats in our diets, in our baking, in our cooking. Fast foods are economical, quick, easy, tasty but "bad", sorry to say.

If you can stay away from pastries topped with sugary icing, dough nuts, deep fried foods, McDs, BK, stay away from trans fats and learn to consume Omega-3s in sufficient quantity then you are making a dynamic shift that can completely alter your life, extend your life and improve your chances for meaningful contribution while you grace the earth.

Here are some benefits from Omega-3s:

*Optimal Heart Health - Omega-3s are the No. 1 heart attack prevention method recommended by hundreds of cardiologists.

*Optimal Brain Function - Omega-3s fats work better in the brain that trans fats. Eat more Omega-3s for brain health.

*Optimal cardiovascular system - Omega-3s not only cure arrhythmias but also provide a better patch for tears in the arteries.

*Optimal Mental health and Mood - Several psychiatrist have shown marked improvement in mood disorders when a diet high in omega-3s are introduced to patients.

*Optimal Joint health - Omega-3s are a natural anti-inflammatory and therefore cause joint troubles to melt away.

Recent studies point to improved mental function in later years. We can't make the claim (yet) that it prevents Alzheimer disease, but early results are extremely promising.

Let me put it this way, essential fatty acids may not cure everything but it's very difficult for the body to stay healthy without Omega-3s.

Do not treat supplements the way we tend to treat medicines. Treat Omega-3s as food. It's important to know the tolerated and optimal dosages. Two capsules of omega-3s are better than none, but treat omega-3s as food. Eat fish that is deemed safe and not toxic from heavy metals.

But to be get on the right track and to begin to reverse the decades generational deficiency, then treat omega-3s like food.

We don't take a teaspoon of eggs in the morning and say we are done eating for the day, now do we?

There is no harm to taking 3-4 grams of pure EPA/DHA omega-3s per day. The only exception would be for a person who is on blood thinners, then it's are still essential but check with your prescribing physician as to a permissible dosage.

So what happens when we decrease the bad fats and ingest the good fats? Most people modulate and tend to lose weight.

Body chemistry and cell function improves because the right fats are available for cell function and brain function. Arteries are rejuvenated by silky fats transporting the cholesterol instead of junky, clumpy fats getting jammed and stuck in dangerous places.

Life is just better with proper nutrition and that starts with essential fatty acids.

Gastritis: More than Just a Grumbling Stomach

Ever experienced vomiting blood or having coffee-ground like material and dark stool? Ever felt abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and constant hiccups? Then you might be one of the more than 10% of people who come to a hospital emergency department with gastritis. Gastritis is a common medical problem of the stomach.

The stomach is an organ of the digestive system, located in the abdomen just below the ribs. Swallowed food is mixed with gastric juices containing enzymes and hydrochloric acid. The lining of the stomach called the epithelium is layered with multiple folds. The epithelium is coated with mucus (gastric mucosa) secreted by special glands. Inflammation caused by gastritis occurs in this lining.

Gastritis occurs when a bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, or the chronic use of drugs or certain medications weakens the protective mucous coating of the stomach and duodenum, allowing acid to get through to the sensitive lining beneath. Helicobacter pylori bacterium is also responsible for most peptic ulcers.

However, gastritis is not just one disease but a group of conditions, all of which result in the inflammation of the stomach lining. Inflammation of the stomach means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to an injury to the stomach. Commonly, the inflammation results from infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers. Yet other factors such as traumatic injury and regular use of certain pain relievers can also contribute to gastritis.

Gastritis may be caused by many factors including infection, alcohol, particular medications and some allergic and immune conditions. It can be either acute, with severe attacks lasting a day or two, or chronic, with long term appetite loss or nausea. In many cases, gastritis has no symptoms (asymptomatic). But, common symptoms may include:

Loss of appetite
Pain in the upper abdomen just under the ribs
Nausea or Indigestion
Hiccups
Blood in the bowel actions
Weight loss

Gastritis can be caused by many different factors, including:

Medications such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
Bacterial infection
Alcohol
Protracted vomiting
Overproduction of gastric juices, which is a stress response in some people
The backflow of bile from the small intestine (duodenum)
Some allergic and immune conditions – for example, pernicious anaemia
Severe stress due to major surgery, traumatic injury or burns
Exposure to radiation.

Diagnosing gastritis involves a variety of tests, including endoscopy and biopsy. In endoscopy, a thin flexible tube is threaded down the esophagus into the stomach. The endoscope is fitted with a small camera so the physician can look at the stomach lining. If the gastric mucosa is reddened, this may indicate gastritis. A biopsy is needed for confirmation. Biopsy involves small tissue samples which are taken during an endoscopy and tested in a laboratory. The pathologist will look for changes, including the presence of inflammatory cells and epithelium damage. Treatment of gastritis varies from person to person and depends on the specific cause. For most types of gastritis, reduction of stomach acid is helpful. Stomach acid is reduced by medication and antibiotics are given for infection. Most people recover from gastritis. Depending on the many factors that affect the stomach lining, gastritis symptoms may flare up from time to time. Overall, gastritis is generally a common, mildly troubling ailment that responds well to simple treatments. On occasion, rare forms of gastritis can be serious or even life threatening. Severe, ongoing symptoms or internal bleeding should alert a physician to search for a more serious underlying cause.
