By Samantha Adams

Yeast infections are far more prevalent than one would imagine and aren't just something which effect the genital area of the body. Some people develop yeast infections in their mouths, under their nails or in the folds of their skin. Any one of these infections can occur at any stage during your life and isn't something that women just have to contend with. Below we take a look at some home remedies to use to cure yeast infections.

1. Plain Yogurt - This particular food contains good bacteria in it which has certain properties that fights yeast infections. You can either choose to eat the yogurt so that the infection can be fought inside the body and also help to prevent the yeast from growing further. The other way of using this is to apply it directly to the area that has become infected.

However, if you intend to use these treatment to cure the yeast infection you have make sure that you use only plain natural yogurt. Any other variety of yogurt contains sugar which will help the infection by increasing the production of the yeast bacteria.

It is crucial that if you apply the yogurt directly to the infected area you never allow it to remain in place for any period of time as this can lead to the infection becoming worse. After the itching has been relieved through applying the yogurt immediately remove any excess. If you do not moisture will gather and the itching will become a problem again.

2. Garlic - This is one of the most effective ways for curing a yeast infection. For a vaginal infection insertion of a clove of garlic into the vagina will help to provide relief. There are now garlic suppositories you can use, and if you use these make sure that the ones you use contain only natural ingredients. The garlic contains anti-fungal properties and it is these which help to kill off the yeast.

However, if you don't like the thought of inserting garlic then taking it in supplemental form or eating in its raw state is beneficial as well. But most people are worried about the way their breath will smell after eating garlic and this is why using pure natural garlic supplements is preferred.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar - This cure for yeast infections is also effective and like garlic can be used both internally and externally. If you are going to apply it directly to the infected area don't do it in its pure state, instead it is better to add a cup of the vinegar to a hot bath and then lie in it for a while.

4. Oil of Oregano - This is another effective cure for yeast infections and should be taken on a daily basis following the instructions of those who produce the treatment. It is best that you use an oil of oregano supplement that contains a high level of carvacrol in it. It is this part of the oil which actually works to kill of the yeast that is growing and causing the infection.
